Star Hawks and tech

Should the star hawks have zero maintainence?

Also, I think the techs are far too cheap, at least the later ones in the game. Previously they were too expensive, maybe. Perhaps weight tech cost based on the galaxy size? In a large galaxy I seem to exhaust the tech tree before most of my colony's are even well developed.

I haven't experienced this problem yet, but when I read that tech costs had been significantly reduced, I was worried. I hate it when in other games, I reach the end of the tech tree in every area, but am nowhere near the end of the game. It's hard to imagine ever running out of things to research in real life.

I'd much rather have the techs be sufficiently expensive that you'd never be able to research all of them in any given game. In each different game, you'd have to decide where to direct your research efforts, and head in a different direction if you wanted to uncover thigns you weren't able to reach previously.

Research is fine for me right now... I end up getting the higher end stuff right when the game is about to come to a close... before I never even got to Avatars...

i only play in huge galaxies and so far ive not complated the tech tree heh

Tech costs ARE related to galaxy size. I find the early game research balance is about right, mid game is slightly too quick and end game is far too quick.

Paul,

Is this because of how aggressive you are in getting the space anomalies and resources? If the AI was better at getting them before you do would that balance it out some? Don't forget, Brad is continually improving the AI.

Possibly something to that Jack, but the last 3 games I've played with beta3z1 have all advanced a bit quick late game. It would be very nice if the game could somehow know how fast the research isgoing and balance the rate of research based on that.

I would suggest a research rate of 1 month if the total research capacity of the galaxy was researching something. If you have 1/3 the galaxy research capacity and are spending 50% on research then it would take 6 months to research. The research effort could be set when a research topic becomes available to research, so the longest available tech (waiting to be researched) would take less time than the most recent available topic.
