I Love Playing In Band

I don't know if anyone would understand how I feel about this but if I could I would do nothing but play my trombone all day long. Of course I'd want to get a few "toys", such as a valve trombone, F attachment, bass, and none other than the odd looking marching trombone. It would take a lot of practice of course to master them all but I would try without a second of thought. I love my little trombone even though it's old and I'm expected to get a new one if I'm going to play in college or whatever. At my school I'm the only trombone player that actually PLAYS my instrument. There's two others. One started this year so she doesn't have any coffidence. The other one just doesn't play because she doesn't know the music.
I'm also the most experienced, if you want to call it that. I started in 6th grade - a year later than most everyone else in the band - and I've stuck with my trombone since. Of all of the low brass players in the band I'm the only one who started out on a low brass instrument. That's even counting the tenor sax. and baritone sax.
I'm not sure if anyone knows this either but of the wind instruments the french horn is loudest followed closely by trombones. The great part about that is that even with melophones, which are like marching french horns (the bell points forward instead of behind you with your hand in it), I am louder. I don't know why because I'm an asthmatic. I know that isn't really such a handicap because my heart rate and lung capacity is still better than the average person's.
I have been said to be the most spirited person in the band. I'm one of those guys who can't sit still when he's playing if he has the moving part. It's like an adrenaline rush when I get to play how trombones are really meant to be played. Fast, sharp, and loud.
Trombones are like the hidden heros of the band. In the movie, Drum LIne, they talk about how the susaphones are this and that and the saxophone is like the soul, and of course they say the drum line is the heart. I'd have to say that the trombone is like the arms and legs of the band. We're what reach out and grab the audience. No one else has a slide. No other instrument slides like we do and they aren't considered the fun machine in band land.
The only instrument that I will admit is better than the trombone is the piano. But enough of that.
Well, like I think you can tell by my rambling, I like to play my trombone a lot. It's so fun and I can cheat when it comes to doing a lot of things because we can't slur notes so all we have to do is try to not tongue the note. It's great. If any of you happen to be looking for an instrument to play or have kids looking or anything like that I think you should seriously think about the trombone. You won't regret it.
