Mothballing

Something for future versions I would like to see. The ability to mothball ships.

1. Have it take say 2 turns to do.

2. Have it cost a percentage of the ship cost. Or a multiple of the monthly maintenence.

3. After mothballed, the ship is no longer usuable, but no longer has a maintenence cost.

4. Takes 2 or 3 turns to take out of storage, again for a percentage of original cost or multiple of its normal maintenence cost.

5. Maybe make a space station module to allow mothballing at the station, or in its sector. And/or make a module to speed up the mothballing process.

I don't think it is in M002 or at least I haven't seen it and I've played M002 for a LONG time now.

I think the cost of mothballing and "taking out of storage" would have to be very high for this to work, otherwise I could just stockpile a huge fleet and then overwhelm a much larger enemy when I decide to attack.

Maybe it should work as a "last defense" tactic. Bring the old ships (with reduced firepower or hitpoints) out of storage as a defense against the Drengin onslaught. All the ships taken out of storage would then be level 0, since their original crews have been sent elsewhere.

I know it wasn't available in MOO2 or MOO. Maybe its in SE4, but I don't remember it (means I never used it if it was there :) )
