Well dont know yet if my friend has managed to download my copy (hes got broadband i havent), but having watched these boards over the last couple of days I think Stardocks level of support has been excellent, hope it continues this way. Only issue I have is either you are updating sdc every few hours or my machine just loves downloading it, as practically every time I logon to here it tries to download a new version, but thats hardly a problem.

Frogboy, just ignore them... :D You guys are doing a good job. It's just a bit buggy that's all... and people get frustrated and shitznitz... it's understandable

FYI I've just had the multimedia thing crash on me again, doesn't help when your piddly little dialup stops after 5 hours... well... nuts to them!

Congrats guys on the work you've done. Man, not many larger companies would be able to do this...

Hi. Just spent the last ten hours downloading GalCiv but seem to have run into a problem. Instead of finishing at the 84.5MBs shown, the download manager has continued and is now showing 102% complete and 86.49MB done, and several million minutes (sic) left of download time. Any ideas?

Update: after the file it was downloading when it went over 100% failed, and I resumed the download, the manager gave the correct figures this time and the installation appears to have worked. A bug with the download manager then, rather than a problem with the actual download.

After failing to properly DL the main game (the game works but SDC won't recognize that it's there, I posted about the problem earlier in the Bugs thread), I tried to DL&Archive the multimedia pack in the hope that I could force it to install itself. After a while (don't know how long, I left it on over night), I got a dialog box saying "There was an error installing Multimedia ... blabla". In case anyone cares, I have put the dialog on http://www.pvv.org/~bcd/SDCerror1.png
Unfortunately, the log appears to have been eaten up by the subsequent queued download, which may have worked correctly (BonusPak DL&Archive). At least, it didn't generate any errors.

I got a friend to download and archive this for me and used SDC to install it. But I cant seem to get the bonus pack and multimedia to work together. The bonuspack is installed into a different directory for some reason. Also now SDC doesnt think that galciv is installed even though it is. The game seems to be hanging on me when pressing end turn some times (although can still change screens etc). Got to say I hate this SDC system, would be much better if you just created a standard installer as this would make life much easier.

I bought GalCiv today.
I installed it using (of course)
the CD key on the jewel case.
Success.
I went to this web site to get the
bonus content and my CD key is not recognized.
The folks at strategy first (where I telephoned
for support) tell me that my CD key is unusual.
It contains a lower case "l". I know it's a lower
case L because there are ones (i.e. the numeral "1")
in my key and these look different than the lower
case "L".

In any case, my key is not recognized here at the web
site and I'm frustrated.
What should I do?

Brad,
I am missing the html quickstart guide you mentioned in another thread. While not critical, it has made me wonder if I am missing some other files as well. I downloaded my copy from the California server Monday night. Is there a way I can verify my installation? Should I just reinstall? Thanks.

I've bought a Derngin account yesterday evening. In the confirmation page, I was having two links, one to download Stardock Central, one to download GalCiv.
I've downloaded the GalCiv installer, but of course, my Drengin.net serial number doesn't work with it. (So why did I get that link in the first place?!? :notsure: )
I've then downloaded Stardock Central (I've asked for the link again by email, and on the email, there is only the link to Stardock Central), and started downloading GalCiv main files before going to bed, but Stardock Central has crashed during the night...

So my question is: would it be possible to use the Drengin.net serial number on the GalCiv installer?

Hi
I borrowed this game yesterday from my friend to see if it's worth buying.
I played it and now I would like to download the bonuspak but the browser says I've got an invalid number. (as far as I know it's ok, it starts with DN and I could install the game normaly) WHAT SHOULD I DO?!
P.S. How do you expect the people will pay for download of the whole game if they can't even download a patch!

Hello,

Just thought i'd share my Download problems aswell. I bought the game on Friday night and was downloading it while i was at work. When i came back home i saw an error message ( clicked it off sorry) and my nic card was burnt out :/. I switch to USB conection on my DSL ( after on the phone for a few hours with DSl isp tech people) and tried to download again, about 70% threw i i noticed an "unknown error has happen" box and the DL was stoped. i then tried to Dl the stardock central program ( it worked) but it would not let me log in and connect, so i still could not get the game. Finaly after work Saturday night i downloaded from the direct link again and after an hour and a half finaly got the game, and stardock is working for me now.

SO i'd advise people if your going to Buy on-line and Download the game, pay the extra $5 and buy the CD just in case :).

Hi, I too have managed to download galciv via sdcentral but it crashed afterwards. galciv is in the drengin.net directory and runs fine but sdcentral doesn't recognise it which makes downloading the bonus pak/manual/multimedia difficult. Is there a workaround for this?

That crash bug did happen to me. So I decided to DL the whole 84Mo again and it didn't crash this second time (though I relaunched SD central so maybe it fixed the stuff on the way).

Hi,
I just purchased the code and can't download. It tells me the Serial is wrong - it's exactly the one from the mail. At one stage it also crashed on me before giving me the error messag

FWIW, my direct download (which ran at a nice 60kBs) kept failing every minute or so - I managed to eventually get the whole thing using CuteFTP's download manager, but it was a bit annoying having to do so. :)

I'm also having problems downloading. First sign of problems were when the download size exceeded the target size in Stardock, but I left it running and it eventually finished about 5 minutes later. It then proceeded to install the program and asked me to restart.

I did, but now I'm not sure how to start the program. There are no shortcuts on the desktop or the start menu, and the program directory in drengin.net/galciv doesn't have any kind of executable or batch file anywhere that I can select.

I looked in the stardock temp directory and tried running the galciv.exe program I found there, but that just blanks the screen for a second then returns me to the desktop.

Can anyone help? Did the download not proceed according to plan? It would be really nice if you could offer the core 86Mb download as a .zip file.

I've got the game and multimedia downloaded after having to reinstall, but the bonuspack keeps crashing with the follwing message:

"There was an error downloading the Bonuspack. The following error occurred:

C:\Program Files\Games\Stardock\temp\mod_bonuspack\data\up_issues\bonuspack.UP_ISS
Failed: File deleted

And I've tried cleaning out the temp files before downloading but no luck.

First, I am enjoying the game a lot. However, I am having trouble updating to 101a via Stardock Central.
Yes I have registered my store purchased copy.
Yes I am connected to the Atlanta Server.
Yes I have restarted and refreshed stardock central v4
Yes stardock central can see I have version 1.01.029 and that I can update to version 101a.
Selecting Update on the left side of screen or on right next to gal civ version results in download of the whole 85MB.
I hope this information can help you resolve the problem.
P.S. Stardock Central did let me update the unsupported windows version fine.
Thanks for a game which will give me hours of pleasure and will only get better.

Uninstalled the game again, installed GalCiv and Multimedia, tried the Bonuspack again, and I still get the error message.

Ok, my second attempt at downloading worked fine. Not sure what the problem was the first time, but I suspect incomplete downloads might be a common cause of problems here. My ISP dropped the line at one point, but I was able to resume without losing progress made.
