More Alien Races

The only thing that reduces playability to me is the fact that you have the same number of alien opponents, same alien civilization names, and same alien types. Why not add 4-5 more, and allow you to pick which races you play against, or all random as in Civilization III.

you can change their names, change their alignment and intelligence, and IIRC you can choose to play with less than the full 5 civs

Yes - Actually it's kind of fun to play on a tiny map with just 1 evil and 1 good race. What I would like as a nice change of pace would be to use some of the other ship sets for my race. The green ships are pretty cool :)

The random part is already possible. If the races could not be customized you would have a point, but since you can change them alot, the only thing that would change with more races would be you could play against more empires. Perhaps in hugh or gigantic maps this could be interesting, but I have my hands full already in every game I play(ed) trying to win from 5 opponents.

Also, the alien races get the same political party/ability picks that you do, and what they pick for those varies with each game. So they aren't the same, even if you leave the alignment, intelligence, and name settings alone.

All true, but for what it's worth I *am* getting a little tired of looking at the same rogues gallery every game. I'd certainly vote for increasing the race mix at some point when things settle down and the developers have time.
