How many of you are planning to upgrade to Windows XP when it is finally released?

Well I just upgraded to w2k and have no intention to upgrade to xp....

If you have Win9x you should go to XP. If you have Win2k...well, it's a tough call.

not tough for me. I like Win 2k, and haven't really heard about anything in XP that would convince me to switch. I'm quite happy here.

I think I almost just got Win2K fully stable for me......except for wowexec.exe which spat a dummy, Grrrrrr....

I won't upgrage till I get a new PC.

I might...at least on my work computer since we are part of Micro$oft Select for businesses and it won't have that annoying "call Micro$oft to activate" feature.

to be quite honest, to be different would be to NOT upgrade. sooner or later the majority of people will upgrade, I'm not sure whether I will or not... I think I might try it out, but I wouldn't be surprised If I don't switch back.

berzerka, I think that kkk remark was a little overkill, people have legit reasons not to upgrade

I downloaded and installed XP RC2 on my LapTop, I was running Win2K SP2, and the upgrade resolved a couple of nagging compatability issues that I had with 2K. My Modem now works which I could never make it do under 2K and my Linksys Lan card work properly all the time. The only issue that I have had so far is with Object Bar, and I'm sure that will sort itself out in time. I'm waiting on my new system to arive, unfortunetly it is coming with WinME (Shudder) but it will have a free upgrade coupon to XP Home. That means that I only have to shell out for a copy of XPpro for my LapTop. I'm going to leave my old system running 98SE when I set it up for my son, since it is only a PII266 and I think that XP would be to much of a drag on it. When I downloaded RC2 it went without a hitch, and I was shocked by the download rate (420kps on Cable) from Conexion. Just one thing to note you have to have a burner to download XP and software capable of burning .iso

On XP RC2 now and wouldent go back to 9x or 2000 if you paid me. but thats just me.

I agree with Frogboy. If you are running 9x or (diety forbid) ME, there is a compelling reason to upgrade- your computer won't be broken so often. If you are running WIN 2K the reasons are less compelling. XP does support skinning better. That is a broad generalization, but true as far as it goes. That may not motivate everyone, but if you are reading a message board on Wincustomize, you are not everyone.

It all depends on the price tag. I heard somewhere that it would sell for around 800$... If it's true, then it is so insane I dohn't even want to think about it. It's probably just a rumor though.

Grog: Funny you mentioned your Linksys card. My driver was causing all kinds of BSODs in W2K, but it works just fine in WXP.

paxx: Retail prices for WXP are roughly $100 to upgrade to WXP Home, and $200 to upgrade to WXP Pro.

I have Win2k, and really works well, more than Mac Classic, ond more more more than winMe!!!
Winxp have more Direct3D gaming compatibility, for this i go to update to winxp! Also, is a great change of win9x! Update all of you!

paxx: You can do a clean install of a Windows upgrade. You only have to have a qualifying OS disc handy when it asks you for one, so it can ensure that you're really upgrading.

If you don't have a qualifying Windows disc (restore discs don't work), I believe the full prices are $200 for Home and $400 for Pro, but I'm not sure.

I think I'm going to hold off for a awhile, maybe to WindowsXPSE, because I have a Win95 CD (full), Win98 CD (upgrade), and a Win98se CD (upgrade). Its starting to look like a Hermans Hermits Box Set. I'm feeling a little to invested with Microsoft.
