Personnaly, I like Friends. With Survivor, it's about the only show I watch on TV. Thursday is TV night in this household. Cool thing is that we have a channel called Global here, and they broadcast both shows one after the other. Friends at 7:30 and Survivor at 8:00.

My mate Dave is off this weekend to film Survivor 8.....I won't say where, though [I think it's still a secret]...

Kona, I think the edit feature isn't available to 'all' members because most folk here STARTED out without that feature...and that 'learns' ya more self-composure of sort. Hopefully?

Newbies might abuse that feature...you know...swear...be rude and then keep changing it on the fly. I once got FURIOUS with a certain member here and I DID change the words and he was none too happy about it but he'd been chewing me out and I was fed up. No excuse. I should have never taken it back...I didn't say anything that awful anyway...but hindsight is 20/20 and I learned he's not such a bad guy and hopefully he's learned I'm not such a bad gal. Ah well.

I once watched about 20 minutes of "Friends" and didn't even crack a smile. Was the show supposed to be a comedy?

My worst weakness is gotta be on MTV, Sorority Life and Fraternity Life. ahhhhhh I watch crap . Don't get me started on MTV. I hate MTV. If they got rid of all the dumb shows they have and went back to showing videos 24/7 (like it was when I was a kid) then my opinion would change.

Totally understood kona. Do you have good cable? With my Comcast here I get a couple of other MTV channels that actually *gasp* show music videos.

I agree. Those shows suck. I never did watch them.

Many shows are absurd and it's a shame anybody would listen to them. The list is too long to enumerate. But I wouldn't say it's a waste of time because I don't watch them, therefore it doesn't affect my time. Nor would I say it's waste of talent because the actors who play in them have none.

About half of your list makes up a significant percentage of my list of favourite shows Kona. I consider myself very picky when it comes to what I'll watch on TV, and I'm not one for soaps or other pointless timewasters. If a show has good writing and acting, and I come away at the end feeling like it was time well spent, then I'll come back to that show again.

I'd be interested in seeing your top 10 list of current favourite shows. Next you'll be telling me that CSI, 24 and the like are poor shows. Then I'll really believe that there's something wrong with you...

I think the problem with shows like Buffy and Angel is that unless you've seen the show pretty much from the start you wouldn't understand a great deal of the writing and humour. I can see how a person who only watched Buffy for the first time during the sixth season or whatever would find it hard to follow and probably not understand a great deal of the humour which relies on in-jokes and references to popular culture. Those kind of shows are the ones that you need to stick with to get the full enjoyment.

As for Friends, I think a lot of the humour only appeals to those who aren't afraid to let themselves go and put their maturity to one side for the duration. Most of the humour revolves around a group of adults who haven't grown up much since they were in their teens. You need to have a similar young-at-heart approach to life to be in tune with the humour.

Joey on Friends cracks me up all the time.  I have seen my husband almost to tears laughing at some of the things that he does.  He does so many "guy" things it's funny.  That, and he does so many stupid things.  I liked the old friends much better than the newer ones.  Chandler had a much more dry sense of humor and Monica wasn't so neurotic.  However, I probably only catch about 4 episodes a year, so I can't be too much of a critic of them.

Kona, if you don't watch MTV (as you have stated many times before) how do you know that you hate the shows?  I watch MTV once in awhile, and I don't even know what those shows are.  How is it possible to rate a show that you haven't watched?  Did you actually watch multiple episodes of the other shows on your list?

I haven't watched many Angel or Buffy episodes, but I know that there are *a lot* of people who watch them.  (Some of the guys around here have actually bought Buffy DVDs).

The only show that I really watch anymore is That 70's show.  Don't know why, but that thing really cracks me up.  Of course, I usually don't watch TV because I'm busy doing other things.  The most TV that I have watched in a single week in the past 3 years was about 12 hours total, and that was because I had nothing else to do while recovering from surgery   I usually watch less than 5 hours a week (which is stupid because I have satellite with 90 billion stations and movie stations )

I never watched Buffy, but I always thought it was a kids show, kinda like the witch show... what's her name again?... Ah! Sabrina!

Kid's show?? You really never have watched Buffy then. I can't remember the last time I saw a decapitation on Sabrina... although it's not a bad idea.

Without meaning any disrespect (or much at least), my suspicions have been confirmed. You're a Trekkie wrestling fan. I'd agree with King of the Hill and perhaps The Simpsons.

I tend to find that folks who are devoted to all things Star Trek have a tendancy to shrug off most other shows which approach the kind of popularity Trek does. My opinion on Trek is probably the complete opposite to that of devoted fans, in that I consider Voyager to have been the best of the shows and TNG to have been boring and repetitive with flat characters and poor story development.

Dunno, it still gives me an impression it's a kids show. By kids, I mean young teens. Like 12 or 13 kinda age.

Or that other show, whatsit called? Charmed?  I put all these shows in the same category in my head: Buffy, Charmed, ... teenie shows.

Sooner or later you will realize that I have an extremely good memory and can remember just about every useless fact that I read.  Does "I don't allow MTV in my house" ring a bell to you?   If it's not allowed in your house, how can your wife be watching it?

paxx, Buffy *might* be watched by teens, but I am pretty sure that it shouldn't.  It gets a little too "dark" at times. 

Talking about dark, is "Dark Angel" still on?  i think I watched an episode of that a few years ago.  It looked like it might end up OK. 

With WWE, does anyone know why it is now WWE instead of WWF?  It's kinda' funny.  WWF (World Wildlife Fund) owned a trademark on WWF for a very long time.  WWF (the wrestlers) started using WWF, and the real WWF ignored it.  The very intelligent lawyers of the wrestlers decided to sue WWF for using their "trademark".  Funny thing was, the judge ruled that the wrestlers had to change since the Wildlife fund already had a registered trademark on it.  So, now it is WWE.  (There, another useless thing that I read and remembered...)

A couple of days ago, on another topic, I gave the opinion that in disagreeing with someone, while we can attack the person's point of view, we should not flame anyone as a person. After reading Kona's list of biggest time wasting shows---I must abandon my earlier point of view!

Kona, you (bleep), (bleep), (bleep) how can you put such great shows an "Buffy" and "Angel" on that list.

Seriously though, both are vastly entertaining and aren't dumbed down like much of what passes for entertainment on television today.
