I am not going to rate it as it migt dissapoint you. Try to add the text with html, not images. Its really a pain if you are on a slow connection. Just use html code.

ugoin, that welcome text is a graphic 45kb large. a user on a 56k modem going an average of 40 will load that graphic alone in 10 seconds. with all the other graphics and that page, you're looking at a nightmare for dialup users. play some more with the 'save for web' option, if using photoshop or illustrator.. and using the optimization options if in image ready. optimal loading time for a page is no longer then 12 seconds. or, if you can get an 'educational copy' of Fireworks, it might do you better.. fireworks will let you draw the way you are in photoshop but it vectors everything which lets you play but takes care of the overhead of large sizes otherwised generated by art such as the type you are using.

ok, lesson lesson: without going into the ettiqette of web graphics, how can you make graphics in the style you are using load quicker?

draw up your graphic and go to 'save for web'.. i'm assuming you're using photoshop.

if using a flat graphic, a gif is the way you want to go. if it has shade sor gratients, use jpg. your center panel will show a preview of your graphic with the settings applied to it. play with going between jpeg and gif from the down on the right side of the screen. note the loading time estimated in the status bar at the bottom of the screen. you can change that loading time to look at different modem speeds. if using jpeg, quality of '6' is standard for a balance between good looks and smalle files. if using a gif, look at ping colors and using dithering to blend colors together, or using patterns. see the difference between web graphic defaults and using a color pallet of your own. this save option will automatically youir graphic to 72 dpi which may already cut down on your loading time. but see what you can do to get a balance of quality and loading time.

i hope that is new/useful information for you

if you're gettign into fireworks, my advice: run the tutorial. you'll be suprised how aftter 40 minutes you'll know how to draw a page exactly like you have very quickly and easily, have it load fast, and have it integrate perfectly with dreamweaver.

up till now, of all macromedia proggys, i have mostly used dreamweaver and flash, now i am experimenting with fireworks and GoLive.

dunno about go live.. i'd stick with dreamweaver just because of its integration with flash and fireworks. adversely, yes, golive integrates with imageready an illustrator but i lean towards macromedia when i think 'internet'.. and you can't beat fireworks for quick easy vector to code pages.

and, banner ads!! thats all i gotta say. hehe

still learning flash, myself.
