Data collection and privacy

I pasted the EULA into ChatGPT along with the question "is there anything in this eula I should be concerned about?" and it highlighted this:

Stardock says it may automatically collect information about your computer, software usage, installation, license validation, diagnostics, advertisement access, and access to Stardock materials. It may also use third-party services to collect it.

The agreement allows information to be used for purposes including software development, performance improvements, and enforcing license compliance. It incorporates a separate privacy policy that can be updated over time.

Why I'd care: The EULA doesn't fully spell out what data is collected, how long it's retained, or exactly which third parties receive it.

I've been using Fences for over a decade, and I don't mind sharing telemetry data to help improve future versions. I'm even fine with sharing data for targeted advertising and market research. But I am deeply concerned about protecting my soft biometrics from AI companies.

Is there a way to continue using Fences while opting out of any data collection or sharing that could expose my soft biometrics to AI companies? I'd appreciate any clarification on what data is collected and whether there are settings or options available to limit this.

Hi Gfody,

Thanks for asking, and for being a long-time Fences user.

Stardock's Privacy Policy includes mentions that Stardock does not share your email address or personal information with any organization that isn't majority controlled by Stardock.  It also states that the information collected will not be used by third parties.

You can read the full policy here: https://www.stardock.com/policies/privacy

The software EULA also states that information collected through the software is covered by the same Privacy Policy.
