This website is starting to suck.

I have already paid you guys for use of this software, and now I'm having to jump through a bunch of hoops to download content created by users. If I've got to create a new account every time I want to download 'free' content, you guys can all take a hike. WB isnt the only app out there. And the way to make money is to make a good product (which again, I have paid for). NOT by making your website difficult to use.

Get rid of that miserable dl quota. >

drac,

If you have purchased software from stardock you don't have a download limit.

If you bought the software, then you don't have a download cap. So what are you complaining about? Have you crossed referenced your stardock account with Wincustom? If not then thats your problem. If you have, then something else is the problem and you need to email stardock.

If you have paid for software then there is no download limit. However, if you keep creating new accounts (other than the one you paid for the software with) they will have dl limits. Just goes to show the depth of your ignorance I'm afraid...

Oh, and if you are going to get tetchy, you know where the door is...

just go here and enter your email you used to purchase your software:

Styl, went to the link, entered the email. They sent a confirmation email to it. I hope someone isn't using that email now so they don't hijack my license. But at any rate, it's way old. I can't reply. I have tried to do this with my current email as well. Then I logged out of the website and logged back in (I was sure to do this), and still got the dl cap. Any other ideas? My email has changed a lot in 5 years. I'm not even sure I know the street address of the place I was living in at the time.

If you use another e-mail adress, inform Stardock so they can update your account info.
No wonder you're getting the download cap. Please don't whine about it, as ultimately it's not Wincustomize or Stardock's fault in this case.

I looked into this briefly. I found an email address that was something like attbi.com as the domain that appeared to have an Object Desktop subscription 4 years ago. But that was the only one I found. Is that yours?

dude you have to resubscribe every year dont you frogboy?
I believe is every 2 years for a WC Subsciption, but I think there is no need to re-subscribe if you purchase a product from Stardock.
Yeah I know WC is 2 years but OD to get the new version you have to do it new every year.

I wish instead of ranting people would simple just ask a question first. Right off the bat they think they know where to tip the blame. Often it is the person ranting who is in the wrong. Saying a website sucks is getting off on the wrong foot when trying to solve an issue.

indeed, ghos. i see a big flame about how much we all suck when the problem looks immediately clear that it is NOT wincustomizes fault. if you've changed your email address and log in with a new user name, of course the system is not going to have any idea who you are or know that you bought something and therefore have no cap. you have to inform the company you've changed. i see you've been around for a long time, drac, so you should realize that. a kind word will get you around faster, here, then will a gun. anyway i hope you slow down and let them help you out so you can get back to enjoying the place.

I've changed my email address a number of times without any intervention from Stardock to do it on both my ODNet and WinC Registrations...

it isn't rocket science...

asking for help in a thoughtful manner lends to a positive light on any given situation, guess some have not learned about catching more Bee's with Honey rather than with Spite...\

Pretend for a minute that I have done all of that already. What a bunch of fanboys. Of course, whatever the outcome, frogboy has it right... at least he actually looked into it. Action, girls. Not reaction. Of course, that's why he has a job, and you guys sit around message boards making smart-ass comments.

A customer w/ a complaint is something that needs to be dealt with by people who actually know what they are talking about. Not by people with delusions of adequacy. You guys aren't doin' startdock any favors.

And speaking of starting on the wrong foot... starting on the wrong foot was when I needed to post in the first place. And still, I'm jumping through hoops. You'll have to excuse me if I don't think that's ok. So my point has been made. The complaint is legitimate.

A customer w/ a complaint is something that needs to be dealt with by people who actually know what they are talking about.

It would be quite politic at this juncture to stress that Wincustomize.com is not Stardock's 'Help Desk' for Customers with a problem.

It is a website for skins and skinners.

Also, the adopted method of posting dissatisfaction was less than 'PC'.  Far more can be achieved with a polite 'please help, I'm stuck'....

drac-x, if the root of the problem is that you don't receive the email you bought the product with, the fault is ultimately yours, and complaining and whinning is not justified.
If I subscribe to a magazine and I move without letting them know my new street address, I don't think it would be very clever of me to complain that I am not receiving my subscription anymore.

this is actually against our case, but...

i've moved 3 times in the last 2 years and i still get a magazine subscription i cancelled 3 homes ago. i can't get a simple letter through the post but they managed to track me down to give me a magazine. hehe.

#16 and #17 - Personally I think these concepts are beyond ones grasp.

Besides the fact that the single time I had an issue which I could not resolve on my own and needed to contact someone. All it took was one phone call and everything was straight in a matter of minutes while I was on the phone being given the explination of what was found and what was done to correct it. Ths issue was of my own creation at that and it revolved around opening more than one account without access to the origional ISP email account used to purchase my first Subscription.

As far as the Fan-Boy and Action-Girl crap floats, one might consider being thought a prick enough of a goal. Instead of opening ones mouth (typing such tripe as fan-boy, ect) to remove all doubt on the path to proving it out.

Easy fix- email [email protected] with your serial number, full name, old email and new email.  They will change your email address to the new one and it will get rid of the download cap.

This is *not* Stardock support.  If you need support, [email protected] and [email protected] are the places to email (sales for account stuff, support for product support).  Only a couple people on this site could even help you *if* they had all your info, which they don't since this is a public forum.

DesignCaddy, you get the magazines because only first class mail gets forwarded.  Others gets returned with the forwarding address on it, so they simply update their records.  Stardock can update email address, too, if the new address is provided

This does work.

I recently changed email addresses, wrote Stardock asking them what to do, they asked me to supply certain info, I did, they changed my email address on record.

No sweat!

First, action is a verb, not a pronoun/adjective.

Second, if there's a download cap, this might as well be tech support. The two are definitely VERY CLOSELY related. Clearly, no representative of this website or stardock would make such an assinine statement. I bet you a dollar they are in the same office. And if some folks here have the goal of being though a prick... well then you will be pleased to hear that the mission was accomplished.

Anyway...

Thank you karmagirl. I'll dig that stuff out if I can find it. I'd add though that if email is so unreliable, and the fault is my own, then why in god's name don't they provide a better way to maintain this stuff? But I supposed I should be ok w/ that too.

drac-x, all accounts are based on email.  When you order something, it is emailed to an address.  Typically, people don't change email accounts that often (yes, I know that there exceptions).  However, a quick email or phone call to sales is all that is needed and they will update your record.

"Clearly, no representative of this website or stardock would make such an assinine statement. "  It is not an assinine statement.  WinCustomize is not an official means of getting tech support (which has been stated many times).  The forums are for skinning discussions.  Since we require a serial number or full physical address stated on the original order to verify that you are you before changing the email address, that type of support can not happen on the messageboards.

Your other option is to get on IRC and live chat with somebody during business hours.

And, yes, most Stardock employees are in the same suite of offices, but support does not read these forums since they are not an official support channel. Sales is really the best place to contact with account issues.
