I've just gone through a grueling cycle of uninstalling all of my security applications in turn and having Stardock Central install WB 5 after each uninstallation (which also included zapping WB off my system as well after each app was uninstalled as well), rebooting, reinstalling WB 5 via SDC and rebooting again. No dice - the reboot to complete installation dialog is just like the frigging energizer bunny! I didn't uninstall AVG Pro but disabled all of its services and startup beh

Yes, this is what I was hoping to accomplish - get others experiencing this problem to post more information about how they have their computers set-up so that we can try to identify some sort of common "thread" that we can then look at more closely to try to troubleshoot this. I see this information as including apps and services that run at startup but also which version of XP they're running, how WB was installed and what hardware they are running it on.

PS Reloader - I am able to run all features of WB 5 using the Intel onboard graphics that are part of the first generation Centrino "suite". My problem is in rebooting AFTER that first installation reboot - which makes no sense to me and suggests that there is more going on here. Once I reboot after having played around with WB and skins, I'm back to windows classic and no amount of rebooting in response to the popup will change a thing. Well, I've been through the application settings for my security apps as well as any logs (that I can find) and cannot see anything in settings that could be blocking completing the installation. The only logs I can find are for RegDefend and SpySweeper and neither of them contain any reference to Stardock, WindowBlinds or SDC. I've confirmed that none of my anti-spyware apps are set to block writes to the registry so I'm back to square one and open to Reloader's suggestion that this may not

Well, predictably, that hasn't worked. The RegDefend update had the added bonus of resetting everything related to it so I can see what write attempts were made/blocked/allowed to the registry and note that not only wasn't anything blocked from Stardock/WindowsBlinds, none have been recorded at all. I guess RegDefend can be crossed off my list, though if you read back through the thread you'll note that I've been through 'em all, a number of times.

The same behaviour is occurring on machines running the 32-bit version of windows (mine included), so this is clearly not a problem exclusive to the 64-bit version. There *must* be something that everyone experiencing this problem has in common - be it a setting, specific software app (or type of software app), installation peculiarities, whatever. I do run registry monitoring software (Tenebril's SpyCatcher, Regdefend, and possibly both AVG 7 Pro and Webroot's SpySweeper) but I've gone through the very laborious process of disabling all of them from starting up AND disabling the services that they install. OK I seem to have joined the rest of the club now in that I cannot get WB5 to start after installation AT ALL. My machine reboots in Windows Classic and I get the "This machine MUST be rebooted after installing this version of WB5" popup (without my interacting with the computer in any way other than to type in my password). I was merely posting to find out if anyone else is experiencing the same behaviour so that we might try to identify if there are common third party services running that might be causing this. Just popping in to report that I still haven't successfully installed WB. I've uninstalled ActiveWords, uninstalled a number of security apps that may be blocking WB's access to the registry and I am still being asked to reboot. Once I get launched down this path, the only way to actually get WB functioning is to reinstall it. If I do this I am asked to reboot, which I do and Windows launches with the "Retro" theme and I can then play to my heart's content UNTIL I HAVE OCCASION TO R

I've had a chance to play with my system over the last couple of days and have discovered that this behaviour only occurs if AW is started AFTER WB. I unloaded WB, started up AW and then reloaded WB (and loaded up a custom skin) and all is well. If I shutdown AW and restart it with WB running, the problem reappears. Mike

Hi Neil, I'm not Chris but I do have a separate thread in ObjectDesktop (it got misplaced when I posted it) about AW and WB 5. When I have WB 5 running (after shutting down all my security apps - see above) AW does not play nice with WB. CPU usage pegs at 100% and it is usually the AWFeedback.exe file that is the culprit (does this right from boot). When other AW apps get in on the act CPU usage is spread among them and still pegged at 100%. I've had a bug report in with AW about this

Bummed. I successfully installed WB 5 without the installation error mentioned above and rebooted as instructed. I was delighted when my machine booted up into the default WB theme (?). However, I have found that I can install and run the app without reboot if I disable ALL my security apps (AVG 7.1 Pro, Zone Alarm Pro, SpySweeper, RegDefen, SpyCatcher, WinPatro). Hi, I purchased WB 5 last night and love it. However, I have begun to notice some conflicts with ActiveWords. Specifically, when running both AW and WB 5 the various AW components (e.g. AWFeedback.exe) peg the processor at 100% and stay there. I have to kill them via TaskManager to solve the problem. Anyone else seeing this and is there a workaround? I've tried setting WB to ignore all of the AW components, but it hasn't helped ,even after a reboot. Thanks,
