it cant /reassures. although I cant wait for it, I'm actually quite excited.
Ahhhhh thanks. You're a pal. But you messed up my edit! *wacks with large baseball bat* :)

Right. I don't want to be in top down view and see a very nicely laid out defensive pattern only to rotate down to view it edge on only to realize that they are all sitting on the very bottom of the grav well way out of range of the enemy ships that will be coming in on the middle. Someone please reassure me that that can't happen!! ;p
For fleet capaciy to be based on research, and for losing planets not to be a big hit fleet capacity-wise, perhaps once you unlock higher fleet cap you keep it regardless of what planets/structures you may lose in the future. I dunno if any oher techs work like this, but for something as vital as fleet size perhaps they bend the rules on this.
That's how it works in the betas. Once you research a technology you have access to it even if you lose research stations / plane
sorry wedge, nowilldo, objects are still placed on a 2-D plain. much as I dislike the fact. That is not correct. Objects are not placed on a 2D plane like in Beta 4, they are placed in 3D. It's just that this is automated; the player is not given control of it.
... wow so... uh... cool!... but uh... then if we can't control it how does it decide? And how much variation on
sorry wedge, nowilldo, objects are still placed on a 2-D plain. much as I dislike the fact.
Yea, I figured as much. I just wanted to point out that that language is VERY misleading.
While you can place things in true 3D, most of the action tends to play on a single field for ease of user control.
Wow, that's a big change. Before all we could do was move ships on the z-axis. I like it :CONGRAT:
You download a program called Stardock Central. It lets you download and install Sins as many times as you need/want. I've installed it a dozen times or more throughout the course of the betas.
Working just fine in Firefox for me. In fact, I don't even have IE. And FYI, the avatars are all .jpg's. Try clicking [link="http://www.ironcladgames.com/images/banners/leaderboard_marza.gif"]this WWW Link[/link]. And yes, the Marza one is awesome :)
whoever said "only" two weeks needs to be found and promptly beaten with a bat.
I'd agree except I don't approve of the abuse of animals - bats or frogs. :P
I've had experience with myleague before, 1Spartan, it's pretty good for what it is... though last time I was there it still sends your password as Get data appended to the URL :P And IC has been promising that Sins will have a built in Ranking/Matchmaking system since 2005 so any unofficial system should only need to be temporary.
What should be done with The Pink Ponies?
Glue factory :P
it will be a case of finding your opponent for the next round by whatever means, and then arranging a time, as soon as possible to play out your match. if that means going into sunday, then that is fine.
As someone who has been the TD for several myleague tournaments and a participant in numerous others I can tell you that that is a bad idea. The key to a successful, conflict free tournament is very clear rules and a well org
Pssh. We gamers give feedback wherever we go. Most developers just don't listen.
And when he says "give feedback" what he really means is that we whine, moan, complain, harass, bicker, and throw tantrums over every aspect of the game. Thanks for putting up with us Ironclad and Stardo
You build structures in orbit and upgrade your planets. You don't actually place anything on the surface of the planet.
Hey Fatty! Good luck with that. I'm a nerd - I have no women! You know that. :P *Gives Fats a wedgie*
see I told you running SoaSE on diluted napalm was a really bad idea.
Yea, but that's what makes it FUN :D
I just noticed that in sins all keyboard keys react on the key-up event instead of the customary key-down event; In most RTS games, such as starcraft, there is an reaction when the key is pressed, not when it is released. The reason for that is obvious, it allows for faster control, since it allows the game to react faster to each command. Since sins has such a slower pace than most RTS games, this fast reaction is not so necessary of course, but the reacting on k
Here is a link to most of the very original screenies that they gave us... some of them are from as far back as 2005: [link="http://www.honorguardonline.com/sinsprebeta/"]Linkey link![/link]
I just installed wine .9.53 which came out yesterday and it doesn't seem to work at all... even winecfg seems VERY slow - but maybe it's just me. I'll keep playing with it but in the mean-time I'd recommend staying with .52.
Yea agreed a replay function would be nice, rewind and speed controls also, maybe they have already thought of it... Already in
Good thing Blair didn't catch you saying that or he would have had to give you a serious noogie
ThunderNipples, let me put it this way: I have been chasing this game around since I first heard about it in November of 2005... And I haven't tired of it yet.
You do realize when the game goes final there will be a lot of new people in here who will think anyone who mentions space ponies is just flat out crazy right? lol
The old people think that too :P
As suggested by TFL BigBANGtheory here is a basic guide to installing Sins of a Solar Empire on Linux using Wine. Please note that Linux is not officially supported by Stardock or Ironclad. Also, please do not send in any minidumps that are generated while running Sins on Linux. The problem may be Linux/Wine related and not a problem with Sins itself so we don't need the nice devs wasting their time looking at them - they have enough work already. Summary of steps: 1. Install Wi
Fantastic! Thanks XRolando! Now it seems to work... the fonts are a bit ugly (rendering too large) but that could well be my fault. Also froze up when I clicked on ICO but that may be related to the Stardock Centeral version issue that others were complaining about. I'm going to reinstall SDC and Sins and see how it works. Thanks again XRolando. Had just about given up on it. Edit: After reinstalling I still get the jumbo fonts and it freezes when I click
Don't ask me how but my gut tells me that it's all eet's fault :P
I've played sins on my laptop (7.10 Ubuntu, 8600M GT, C2D 1.8, 2GB RAM) flawlessly since Wine 0.50. In one of the previous versions of Wine there were instabilities, slowdowns and in some instances fonts that didn't render correctly. But now its working flawlessly.
This is very good news... but could you clarify what version of wine you are using? I thought I had the most up to date version with 0.9.33. Did you install yours from
