I hesitate to mention this because it is so weird: I've noticed that if I play for several hours with the current build, then try to shut off my computer, it reboots! If I shut off again, everything is alright. What is weird about this is that GC is the only program that seems to cause this phenomenon. I am running XP Home with an Athlon 1.8, 512meg, and a GForce 3 card. I started noticing this after I routinely loaded Smart Exception to catch crashes. Is SE a factor? I usually don't quit S

The last patch or two seemed to include a new bug (the "string not found" bug in the diplomacy screens). Perhaps fewer or less frequent updates that give SD time to check for unintended effects would be better... ~SDC~

Same as Wargear: SE is running and captured the error, but the "Submit" button does nothing. I posted the notepad version of the exception on this forum (and e-mailed it to Carielf). ~SDC~

Sorry for all the posts, but the "String not found" bug is back: the minor civilization IFed shows "String not found" if you access the information on the civilization from the diplomacy screen. ~SDC~

Had a crash near the end game after installing all current patches. The game just quit after a move, and dropped me back to desktop. I reloaded, and crashed again. Here's the SE log entry: Stardock SmartException Logging Information ------------------------------------------- OS Version : Windows XP Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 200 Application Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION Crash Addr: 00407A6A 01:00006A6A C:\Program Files\Strategy First\Galact

Check the "Software" section of Stardock: there is a new patch that takes care of the "String not found" bug. Don't know about the others, though. ~SDC~

Delete Galactic Civilizations from the Uninstall icon in the directory, then reinstall it. Updates should work then, at least they did for me! However, it appears the updates have introduced one or more graphical bugs on the Diplomacy screens. ~SDC~

Re: my download problems... I tried deleting GC and reloading it, leaving Stardock in place. That did the trick. I don't recall seeing this in the documentation; probably should be there, though. ~SDC~

Had a bear of a time getting the updates to load, and now that they have, I'm not sure it was worth the effort. I, too, have experienced the "String not found" bug on the diplomacy screen, and the wrong-ship-moves-after-selecting bug. I don't remember this happening on 1.01. Haven't had the end-of-game crashes yet, nor have I tried the Tribute sliders (I try to avoid paying tribute). Seems like the new updates have introduced a couple of new bugs... ~SDC~

I, too, have had no luck getting the multimedia updated, with the same error message: Extract File: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\temp\Mod_Multimedia\Music\Unease.mp_ Result: Failed (deleted file) Installation aborted (failed) I have tried the "lower left corner" update button to no avail. The other updates seem to load fine. Perhaps the huge size of the download (366megs) has scared others off so that there isn't as much experience with this download?<

I have been trying to download and install the latest update for the multimedia files (.004 to .006), but the install hangs near the end: Extract File: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\temp\Mod_Multimedia\Music\Unease.mp_ Result: Failed (deleted file) Installation aborted (failed) According to the gauge, I have downloaded the whole update, and it consistently fails at this point. I hesitate to download the whole update again (366megs!!), and wonder if I nee

Carielf; Re: your request I email my crash exception. I didn't have se running when the system crashed. I reloaded the second-to-last savegame (last savegame was very corrupt) and was able to finish the game without a problem. Which suggests something: a memory leak. When I crashed I had been playing for hours. It seems that if I save and quit during games, no problems. Its not my system specs causing a problem: Athlon 1.8, Gforce 3, 512g memory. If I get another crash, I'll send

Bad crash tonight. I had just finished a wild series of battles with virtually all the races allied against the Drengin when the game crashed back to desktop. I tried loading the autosave, but all I got was the GUI: it even had "Test" in place of graphics! Very odd. I loaded an earlier autosave and it seemed OK but I didn't have time to play through and see if it is corrupt.

Just to verify what several others have noticed... Galactic Wonders, trade goods, and Capitals can all be duplicated or triplicated. Fine with me, but either change the rules or fix the game. Minor powers do seem very precocious, usually ending up with powerhouse economies, militaries, and techs. This may be a bug, but it prevents them from being prey to the major powers and is OK as is. Several of the screens need tooltips, right-click options or color coding. If y
