Sounds good, but there has also been hints about an SDK... Stardock sure delivers some great software, but I don't really trust them at all when it comes to delivering on promises. That's a true shame.
I want the best dream ever!! Please make it... ;) Well... That wasn't what I meant... Here goes: I want a dream that allows loading any windows screensaver as a desktop wallpaper. It would dramatically increase the number of cool stuff available. :)
♦
Mikeko, at the bottom of every page is a link that marks all posts as read . . an that is site specific. So I can read teh posts I'm interested in at wc.com . . then click that link and the posts I'm not interested will be marked on all the sites. It makes life a bit easier. Having said all that. I like the cross posting.
I like the cross posting too, it's a great thing. But it's still a mess. The
2 years really isn't all that much. Everyone who passed 30 years of age is ell aware of that :P
Yes. The community is GREAT. :) ... The forum itself though... Seriously, the one who set up all the cross-site-subforums and everything has made a total mess of it (I'd think it's different people over time rather than any single person though, the lack of any kind of structure suggests that) ... I try to read the stardock forum, wincustomize forum and the impulse forum... Geesh, I can't tell how annoying it is to tell them apart... They look exactly the
I REALLY hope we can see dynamic dreams in the next GUIC... While the entries has been truly awesome, most dreams are unusable because of their size... I don't want a 150MB+ wallpaper, it just makes my bootup time sluggish.
No animation though... Which means Stardock straight out lies on the bootskin product screenshots. That's not good PR guys...Perhaps you are confusing the old, unsupported, XP bootskin app for the new Vista one. Can you post a link where the claim is made so it can be adjusted?
http://www.bootskin.com ... Look at the screenshots. No confusion there. :) System
I went back to Vista.
I believe Microsoft would like you to call it an *upgrade*. :p
Does Aero have to be running in order to run dreams? I keep getting a DWM error.
You need the "Desktop Window Manager Session Manager"-service running as far as I know... I think Vista disables it when you turn off aero. It could very well not be needed anymore though, unless they actu
Ummm, this is the MyColors section... MyColors is specifically made to allow Stardock distribute commercial suites. As far as I know, it has never been intended to allow just anyone doing suites for it. It's quite simple logic... Today you need an object desktop subscription (or the individual components) to apply a skin. If just anyone could package a mycolors suite and distribute, stardock would lose pretty much all the non-ultimate object desktop subscribers. &
there has been another release since my last post, current version is 1.01.[b].022 which doesnt ask for registration. There is no animation on the bootscreen (using Vista) and the skin only appears for around 5 seconds, there is a period before that of blackness for around 10 seconds and afterwards of around 15 seconds before the login prompt appears. Not great but definitely a step in the right direction.
The bootskin won
Congrats TMB and CN. You've really nailed the concept of dreaming. :)
Here's an idea; double click - remove all that's not marked "sticky", triple click - remove all icons. It makes sense as triple click is a "select all"-thing. if you dont like sticky icons, just don't mark them as such and original functionality is preserved.. ... just my few cents... Suggesting features before even trying the software... silly me. :P
On my system it actually tells me that it fails (there was an error applying [skinname]). Which is progress, as the last version claimed to be successful.
I've been waiting for it to be shared since I first read about it :P ... I don't have any desktop icons, but I definitely could use some. This little thing seems to sort out everything I hate about the concept of icons on the desktop. :) I wouldn't call it desktop customization... Desktop enhancement seems more appropriate. :)
A fairly recent machine will run Vista just fine... Try this: Vista was released November 8, 2006. XP was released 25 October 2001. Take a few random computers dated from ~2 years before up to ~2 years after both release dates, and use drivers released as late as possible within the respective timeframe... You'll see the same phenomenon... A computer from 2005 runs vista like crap.... A computer from 2000 runs XP like crap... Most
It fails to apply skins on my system. Vista Home Premium x64, Swedish (sv-SE). :(
I just looked at the bootskin page (https://www.stardock.com/products/bootskin/screenshots.asp) It displays the loading bar on the screenshots, does that mean it's actually "animated" now? :) I don't know if the newly released beta is supposed to fix the international issue with bootskin pro, but here's a brief report on how it works for me... It loads, but I can't apply any bootskins. It just brings up an error stating it failed. This is actually progress though, as t
Be ready and concentrate, elephant! anime
I don't mind the fact. I mind not being notified though, and so should the mods, because they had to check my submission twice. It could easily have been three or nine times if I hadn't been clever enough to ask. They should just add a statement that all submissions are not selected for the gallery on the submission page... It's not like it requires any major restructure of the website to do that. I'll just hold my head high, and keep creating more of the s
Beer! dumb or ignorant?
Don't eat yellow snow... Seriously though.... ... on a radio show about words to live by for the 21st century someone really cleverly stated: "Don't believe everything that's true." I really can't agree more!
I've got that for both submissions, and they congratulate me on getting it approved. The "Show on my personal page only" checkbox seem to be stuck though. I've done double rechecks of all settings both times I submitted it, and I'm absolutely certain that I've not had it selected.
I have a problem with my latest bootskin submission. I've uploaded it and I've updated it. Both times I made sure the "show on personal page only" checkbox was unticked, yet it doesn't appear publicly. AFter considering causes, I've come to the conclusion that it's possible that it is a "too sad for public display"-thing. I would hope to get some kind of notification of the fact if it is, so I can make an effort to get it up to standard. Personally, I like it the way it is, but I supp
Read this about codec support: https://www.stardock.com/products/deskscapes/faq.asp and try the codec tool to see if things are ok. You really need some other decoder though, pinnacle studio 9 is ancient, and quite frankly, not even their more recent versions of the codec have been very stable as far as I know.
