Its a Strategic Game where Fleets tussle for control of Whole Systems, its not a ground level Grunt fights Grunt game.... do the latter on largest size map for every Planet you take, and it will take a Huge amount of time to complete the game. GalCiv is fought at a Strategic Level, its not about Tactical Combat. There is some of the letter for sure, Fleet battles Fleet etc etc. However to open up ground level fighting in t

One of the best, if not the best part of Fallen Enchantress games is the exploration aspect with your heroes-- especially in the early portion of the game. I think this same concept can be brought into GalCiv, where heroes can act as ship captains, generals, etc. If anyone remembers the old Star Wars 4X space game, Rebellion, you had various characters throughout that gave certain bonuses in certain situations, and it really brought a lot to
during the beta, we had that mechanic for a while (battle consumes all remaining movement points) but there were lots of complaints about that system, so eventually the devs restored the old system of multiple attacks per season. i think two of the main arguments were being unable to loot a lair after you defeated the guardians (thus you could sometimes lose the liar when an AI army happened to be close enough and could just steal your loot),
The AI is incompetent. It's pretty clear. They are told to build a crapload of cities as fast as possible with little thought for defense or infrastructure. As I've said in reviews prior to the expansion and will say again, this game dies after you've explored a bit and killed all the monsters. There is really very little reason to play once you're down to other AI empires as you've already won at that point-- i
Why are armies, with movement points left, allowed to fight multiple battles each turn? If you have a stack of doom with a number of +1 movement bonuses (4-5 moves per turn), you can clear half a map along roads. To me, this seems a bit too powerful. IMO once you fight, you should be out of moves. Or at least not be able to engage in combat again that turn.
All settings were "normal" I believe.
It may not have been a bug. There is a perk for either not getting attacked by monsters at all, or an other for less likely.
Then it's an exploit and shouldn't count toward wildlands. It makes his empire virtually indestructible when he has this epic creature and other high level crap ganking anyone else who comes near him. All he has to do is plant a few cities in there and he has a virtual
I got jobbed in my game with this wildland. Another civ was able to enter it and settle it without ever getting ganked by any of the creatures, who instead ganked me every time I entered. That and some other significant bugs have forced me to put this game on hold for awhile.
Having now played a dozen or so hours, I've had fun but also have continuously experienced crashes and instability in addition to some clear bugs. In fact, I'll be waiting for a few patches before continuing. I'd also like to know why the computer civs get such a blatant advantage when it comes to wildlands? So Resolyn(sp?) and I happen to enter the cursed swamp at the same time, but of course everything goes after me. In a
Appears to have worked. Thanks!
Regardless of Steam autopatch, the fact is that the game ran flawlessly before 1.1, and now none of my saves will load. Is there any fix to this that doesn't include reinstalling the game?
i too am have the problem. have not tried with non custom, but i do have the map paq also
Me too. Anyway, I'm getting ready to write this game off and move on. Sure like to hear some "we're working on it" quotes from Stardock, but it's the weekend...
I'm not sure of a cause, but I never crashed until 1.1. And it has crashed 8 times tonight. Pretty much every time I've tried to load a game. I tried my old games 4 times before I figured that 1.1 must not be compatible with games from older versions. I've also crashed 4 more times trying to load new games. I haven't seen anyone else say anything though... so that makes me a bit afraid that it might just
My crash issues also involve a custom faction, FWIW.
I have almost 40 games in my Steam library, all have been auto-patched, yet none have been made unplayable due to one. ...until now. Most game companies test their patches before they release them.
So I had the 1.1 forced upon me from Steam and I'm trying to continue my game. 'Cept now saves won't load without crashing the whole thing... WTF?
So according to Steam I've got 18 hours into it (paid full price, $40). As an experienced Civ, GalCiv, etc fan, I generally play very conservatively at first-- build a few cities, then build infrastructure, then expand again. About 10 hours into my first game (large, random world with 5 other players on "Easy" until I got the hang of it) I finally got diplomatic ties with my first civ. Despite handicapped algorithims, apparently, this civ was 3 times my power, earning 3
Biased, but honest. It's a good sign that there's so much support for it, which is quite the opposite of my experience visiting shortly after WOM's release. Someone above mentioned XCOM, which I just finished and loved, so I think we're on the same page here. Will dl from Steam now. Thanks again!
Hi there, I'm a huge fan of GalCiv and 4x games, so last year I was intrigued with the first Elemental until I started reading the forum. I asked if it was worth buying and was generally told "no" and wait for 1.1, etc. Seems it never came 'round to unbroken status, so I'm glad I listened to you guys. So here we are again... Is FE worth it, or are we waiting for 1.1 again to buy? Reviews are mixed, but I never trust game sites a
This is not a review, it is a flame, pure and simple. Like many have said, this game MAY be good one day, but there is simply no excuse for any game to be released in this condition. And I thought Empire Total War was a mess on release... What's more frightening is how many folks on this board want to give them a pass for this failure. I understand loyalty, but don't you feel just a little shafted, here? I realize every game i
Thanks folks! Just looking for a time-eater until Civ V.
Hey folks, big fan of Gal Civ/Stardock, and this game looks promising, but I'm hearing there are quite a few problems. While it seems the 1.06 patch may have at least stabilized the game, it sounds like there's a long way to go. Despite this, I'm still considering a purchase tonight or tomorrow. Should I wait for patch 1.07 (or beyond)?
