As I see it the radically new CPU design of the PS3 will allow it to produce some very spectacular effects (i.e. games) further on (as Gears of War is the killer-game from X360, a year later). I'm also short a DVD-player (using my PC over wireless video/audio link) so that's MY second argument. Then again, I'm not really planning on buying a PS3 for a few months ...

Not to offend the OP, but I'm getting a bit tired of feature requests based on other games. New features should have their own merits to be judged against the kind of game StarDock wants GalCiv2 to be, not have a "like in XXX" to promote it. Every game has it's own approach to it's genre so their individual features are not automatically suitable for each other. Focus on the feature, not the source of the feature.

In GC2 there are probably more ways to play the game than players, so don't assume we all "will exact retribution". I, for one, will be happy once an enemy is no longer a threat, regardless of where he/she/it went. The newly formed entity could, of course, be or become an even bigger threat, but at least we're not immediately at war!

The rest of you should consider how much shit your going through just to play this thing. I'm very sorry for your bad game experiences, but do not make the assumption that everybody else is having the same issues. I, for one, am going through no shit to play this game. In fact, it's right up my alley with a space set game with time to think and

So, is there a "full" article to be had somewhere or is this all there is? I'll continue to judge programmers by skill, but we need to broaden the potential recruit base to get all the talents, regardless of gender.

OK, so I'm just half-serious, but this would introduce the possibility of a power-player actually losing a game by not treading softly enough (eliminate all races = no win, last race surrenders to you = no win, last planet falls to influence = no win). Would surely mean an interesting game, don't you think? A game with Alliance Victory only , where you'd better keep the "closest" race alive until the end or face working an enemy over to your side?

I for one is a bit tired of the comparison between this GAME and the REAL WORLD. Game mechanics should only mimic the real world where appropriate and definately not do so "just because", but when/where it actually contributes to game play. Planet annihilation would have a negative effect on GC2 game play (too fast, too easy and too undefendable from) so it's been left out. The same goes for all "the AI should do everything to stop me

This is probably a too late a comment, but I've just gotten around to it: I noticed that all three new game options are "positive negatives, i.e. you make a positive choice for a negative option (positive/negative used here for "sign" only, no feature judgement implied). For example, I check (positive choice) "No tech trading" to remove (negative option) something. This becomes even more apparent when you expose your inner

Important is to note that the 75% bonus is BETA-only. So if you're on 1.0X the only bonus is at 100%. Personally, I go for 50% tax right of the bat and compensate with entertainment. Works at sub-normal, but perhaps that'll change as I progress.

AFAIK, this is addressed in 1.1 (unused hammers are converted to shields and unused shields are refunded as bc).
