Because stock markets do only a little of everything, they are actually quite mediorce. It is far better to not waste tiles on them by having a high econ rating already and instead building more effective morale boosters. Additionally, using up limited space for any influence building is absolutely useless as one can instead build an influence starbase. Farms can actually be harmful on colonies with capitals-I mistakenly built a farm on an agri boost sector last game and the people in my capit

Oh and I might add a civil war in the last game among the evil races with the "fundamentalists" eliminated the evil races as serious competion early in my last game.

Actually, if anything needs patched, it is that the good side is way too dominant. An isolated, evil race is an easy target. Whatever minor penalties one sustains early from choosing good are paid back ten fold later in the game as long as trade is maintained with your buddies.

I was about to post that the Dregin typically are battle-fodder- Trade is the basis of the economy, econ is essential for buying things+research and since no one trades with the Dregin-----Dregin are an easy target, particularly mid to late game if the rest of the universe is trading. The Arcean need knocked down in a patch-I purposely excluded them from my last game as I am tired of a yellow map. And its nice to see the Iconians (and the Yor, who also always fall)are a pain to other people

I have been playing with numerous combos but I think undoubtedly, especially at higher difficulties (bright or above), you need money first (economy). Eventually I can set my social production at 5% and through trade and economy, buy virtually any building anywhere. It doesn't matter if you want to be peaceful, violent, a builder, a diplomat, etc...economy is the only thing that helps one universally. You can play around with any combo of other traits but like in real life, money makes the wo

Wow -I am suprised at the number of posts. It is interesting that many people seem to agree the lack of orbital bombardment is odd for a space strategy game. As for the comments about MOO2 being imperfect, of course it was. It was eventually possible to beat it against the worst odds. But by changing your racial make-up, you could always (or at least for a long time) change how one had to win. And like all strategy games, the end game (stellar con

I have seen some comparison of the old series to galcivII and these games are way too easily written off. So much is borrowed from them in gal civ (the land invasion scheme looks and acts exactly like moo I) that some comparison ought to be made. Particulary, very little military "strategy" is needed in galciv II ("strategos" being Greek for a general). There certainly is diplomatic strategy and economic management, but the key part of strategy is m
