32-bit vista w/ SP1 + 8500 GT + upgrade= crash at menu screen in Technical Sins Forums

The title says it all mostly. Crash at menu, cant even change a setting. Tried a number of Nvidia drivers to no avail including the most recent. Have an awesome Intel mobo and 8400 dual core. Even tried running as an XP app. I have been reading forums constantly for hours and have tried 3 installs, 1 of those downloaded from Impulse. Seems to be a software issue. 8500 GT +32-bit Vista+ Sins of a Solar Empire= Crash Freezes on menu screen. Just purchased and updated to 1.1 Tried a couple different Nvidia drivers. Have service pack 1 for vista installed too. Running at same res as desktop, 1152x864. I have been trying for hours to get this to work and am becoming very frustrated. Any ideas?
