I think I am in the same boat. I have SotS boxed retail along with Gamers Gate expansions (BoB and AMoC). I purchased ANY on Impulse and it installed after I pointed it to my install directory on the Hard Drive, but the game won't launch. When I click on the icon it brings up a small splash screen, pauses, then the desktop blinks, and that is it. The game doesn't launch and it shows nothing in the task bar. There are no errors displayed on the screen. There

Square root, that is harsh. At least it does something though-- I guess.
I am torn as to whether this weekend is the weekend to really tear into this. Is the tech bug dead then or should I wait it out a bit more?
A question from the newbie. Do all forms of defense give you defense? It seems like the tech trees are lasers, missiles, and ballistics with defense for each. So, would high missile defense still be useful and give some bonus against other weapon techs or do you need the right one (thus having to research all or just go all offense)?
I have held off so far, and am awaiting the patch so as to be able to fully enjoy it. Here is hoping for before the weekend. What are some examples of how the new techs change the races?
I recently got my GalCiv2 up and running again and was pondering getting TA and sinking my teeth into it this weekend. I have a few concerns based on posts here. They are: 1) Tech/ research cost bug 2) AI failing to put up much of a military fight (dogs with no teeth comment) 3) The "new" ground combat from screenshots looks to be a major turn off. I would have prefered a better "cheesy combat video" a la MOO2. Now, some people seem to paint thes
I know, I know, usually stardock is the savior of gaming. However... The short of it is my computer died so I am reinstalling my old programs. I originally purchased the physical retail GalCiv2 Gold edition (original plus Dark Avatar) and installed it then registered it online. From that point onward I just used stardock. So on my reinstall I just load up Stardock and it has my programs still tied to my account (good), but it says there is a problem with my Dark
When I first played Advent and used Reverie it would stop an enemy (cant move, fire, cast, jump, etc), but you could still shoot them. The more you hurt them, the shorter the Reverie "stun" would last. With higher levels of the ability they would take more damage before breaking out of the effect. The description also seems to indicate this is how it should work. However, after using it again recently (post patch?) it seems to work more like the Vessari version where it just
1) Re: AI smartly surrenders when it's losing badly (planned for 1.03) Please make this optional for those of us that like to see it through to the bitter end. 2) AI behaviors: a) Less likely to run. Especially if fleeing will cost it a planet (AI flees too often and fails to recognize the value of attrition or the detriment of sacrificing planets). Fleeing as it stands is a bit out of control. The AI seems to never stand and fight unless it has a huge upper
Well, I am not really trying to make any statements about skill or noobness. We are all at different spots on the learning curve right now. I luckily had a few days to really dig into this game. I am more trying to bring a spot light to some of the AI issues without just saying "the AI is weak" or "its good but needs work". Or whatever; just trying to be more specific in hopes it can constructively be looked at.
Could someone explain the upgrades to me? I zoomed in and looked at my bombers (Advent) at the beginning of the game. They did "average of 3 points of damage". Okay. Several upgrades later on the tech tree that said it effected bomber damage the damage is still listed as 3 points average. What is going on?
Uhm, what dificulty level are you playing in? ...
We played against Hard every game. Some games we tried to set it to economic to get it to build its economy (it had zero trade strangely enough income). We tried aggressive to get it to attack more or with something besides siege frigates. We tried tech to see if it would play better that way. No luck. Generally games were (3 to 4) players vs (2 to 4) Hard AI. Locked teams of players v
My friends and I love CO-OP AI games. We have played several games now (we coordinated some, um, sick time...) and this is what we are noticing: 1) THE AI runs too much. It is like chasing your tail except through node lines. In some sense it makes sense to run, but a lot of the times it runs when it is either an even fight or if it is going to lose a colony and it should try to inflict attrition for attacking and buy time. Too many times all you need to do is get a slightly better
How exactly should the save feature work? We had our first crash (one guy dropped out). So we immediately saved the game and quit. I then hosted again using load game and loaded the save file we used when the guy crashed. Everyone could join except the guy who crashed. It would let him blink in then out and give him the message that he did not have the needed file. The auto-save worked for everyone, but was a bit old and before some important fights. Does the game distribu
I just want to make sure to follow the right steps. It seems like it does not matter if I click on links on this site or click the buy link when in Stardock central, in either case it does not seem to be tied to my Stardock account. What is the process to getting everything tied together? Will I get a key that I register in Stardock central once the game is released or should I be able to tie it in beforehand when purchasing? Will this all be tied together still when/ if Central co
10 more for the collectors edition box copy. Then "10 to 15" more for shipping. Thus 25 more.
I am torn as to whether the extra money is worth it for the CE edition. I like paper manuals a lot and am a throwback to preferring physical media. However, 25 extra bucks is... a lot. Are there samples of the music available?
Something I have noticed in watching the videos online, it seems like there are too few voices for units and the same lines are repeated to the verge of insanity. Do recent builds have more voices for units? Or perhaps could other sounds (engine noise or something) be dispersed amongst the voice acknowledgments so that you don't hear "how sinister" every third click? It reminds me of Pacific Storm (which had 1 or 2 acknowledgments tops so you constantly heard the same line). This ele
I cannot check the registry path right now, but the demo is gone and the game seems to work (outside of the save game and everything after it). The version was the most recent patch .68 or something in the updater as I updated after installation. However, after the uninstall of the demo, GalCiv2 gold and DA both went down to 1.50x or something. I played it that way hearing of the fog of war bug during the whole game. After encountering the save issues on my second run I updated again
I am still really new and playing through my second game. I saved after several hours a few days ago and resumed my game where I had just finally broken free of pirates that had me (and everyone else) cornered. I then put my superior weapons to use and conqured a few planets then saved. So upon restarting I go a few turns and some cutscene for a plague shows up. The movie seems odd as it shows a ship flying over water rather than anything disease related. Shortly after I not
Okay, I am still very new. How do I "crank up the research"? I know I can buy more labs, but my pitiful 2 planets are full. I found an economy slider, does that work in addition to the number of labs I have? Is there a cost to raising the research bar and lowering manufacture if I am not building any ships or buildings? While I am at it, I saw a tax rate, I have not touched it should I raise or lower it, my citizens are already kinda unhappy (I am guessing from max pop with 1 farm a
Okay another question. Now that I found the "keep the stuff on when upgrading" option, if I want to upgrade, say, my basic colony ship and I just replace the engine with 2 better ones (miniaturization and engine tech comes along) can I save the ship and keep its name or do I have to rename it to not mess up the "core template"?
F ...Also I'd suggest if you play in DA to turn off Mega Events. They can be game changing in the extreme and something a new player shouldn't deal with in their first go . Personally now that I've played DA I wouldn't go back to DL for anything. But you may want to start with DL just so you can see what improve
So, I just got GalCiv2 Gold with Dark Avatar. I want to start my first few games to learn the game. However not sure where the best place is to start. I watched the tutorials. Now I am thinking I should play GalCiv2 (dread lord) campaign, or skip that and go to Dark Avatar Campaign to get all the "new" stuff, or skip both and just play some small or tiny maps. I did start one campaign and it seemed to have some smaller objectives and a cutscene or two which is cool. Anyway, opinion
AH, thanks, that should help my newbie moves a bit. Thanks.
