I fall into category 3. Competition = good, monopoly = bad (for the people buying that is). I don't mind Steam, I have all the half-life games, audiosurf, and left 4 dead on it, as well as some other cheap pick-ups, and it running in the background doesn't affect me much, and I've known how to set it to offline mode since I started using it (when all I had at my house was dial-up). Also, I'm not that big of a Civ fan, I got Civ 4 complete on Impulse and played it a bit, but
Doriath is already on the list Right now I'm leaning towards having Doriath being playable. If I remember correctly, they did send out an army once. I might be remembering this wrong (so tell me if I am) but I'm pretty sure they sent out a force to help the Noldor in their "final" assualt on Morgorth. When they all amassed their forces for a massive assualt on Morgorth, and even Gondolin sent out an army to help. But again, I might be remem
Morslok, you'd probably have to split up your empire right before you win in order for that to work.
I was thinking more something like in Sins after you win you get a prompt with an option to keep playing even though all the enemies are defeated. Then you could make new factions from your cities and keep the game going even though you already won. That way you could keep playing the same game for as long as yo
So does this mean we could, theoretically, keep playing after we've won the game, make new factions, and basically just keep the same game going for infinity?
Good points, like the Ent/Huorn faction idea, not sure how playable it would be though (maybe another candidate for NPC). All I'm saying is that if an army showed up uninvited or unannounced on my border, no matter whose it was, I would certainly think twice about helping them. Perhaps it could be a diplomacy option, you can request aid from Lothlorien when near their borders, rather than just having it given to you. BTW the dwarves were just an example, I could as easily
Good digging, sir! I would agree that the best 3rd age elvish faction to be playable would probably be the Mirkwood elves. Doriath as a non playable faction is definitely also a good idea. Passive bonuses to good factions when they go near NPC faction of Lothlorien also sounds intriguing, though I'm not sure how well that actually fits, since Lothlorien was pretty insular toward the end of the 3rd age, and I'm not so sure they would like it all that much if say the dwarven
Until we actually see the magic system in Elemental, how it will work in the mod remains up in the air. Right now, I'm thinking there will be magic, but it will be very limited, ie Sauron's black clouds, etc. Perhaps characters more known for thair magic (Gandalf) will be wandering heros that can be recruited to help out, but again, who knows? My current plan is to start with the 3rd Age races and slowly add on more as
Well, not explicitly stated in LoTR but Lothlorien was attacked three times during the last battles of the War of the Ring. They were all driven back by the elves and by Galadriel's and her ring's power - Lothlorien could only be overcome if Sauron himself had come. Once Sauron fell, Celeborn led his armies and captured Dol Guldur, and then Galadriel leveled it to the ground. I don't remember if Rivendell had any more of a mil
Okay, let me see here... If you're going straight up 3rd age, or making it 3rd age centric, I would have to agree with Torment, magic is a scarce commodity in that time period. Magic is far more commonplace in earlier ages, but mostly because of the elves who brought their knowledge with them from Valinor and taught by the Valar, or the less savoury characters who learned the arcane arts from Morgoth. That's not to say there isn't any, Gandalf and the other wizards broug
Just remember that your channeler has the equivalent power of a Valar (translates literally to Power or Powerful), which are the "Gods" of Middle Earth. So, even if you're playing as orcs from the 3rd age and your channeler is Sauron (which would be interesting to have a channeler who doesn't move around (stuck at Barad Dur) and whose spells are more powerful the closer they are cast to Mordor) you are still only role-playing one of the Maiar, who basically are just servants to the Vala
Not to nitpick, B in "kB/sec" and "mB/sec" should be lower case since these are bit measurements, not bytes. So the 300 Kbps would translate to 37 KBps and the 24(!) Mbps would translate to 3 MBps.
My personal preference is to have it based on speed. You want a 1MB connection, it's $X. You want 5MB? It's $4X, 10MB? and so on.
This would also be my preference, I would gladly step down to a 3mbps connection as long as the latency doesn't change (meaning as long as I could still play games with minimal lag).
Currently I have Time Warner cable internet and am paying around $35 a month for (optimally) 8mpbs connection though it rarely goes over around 7mbps. I don't really know how much bandwidth I use but if I had to guess I would say it's well over a hundred gigs per month. I have 3 computers (2 of them power users) and 1 Xbox 360 streaming hd tv shows from netflix fairly regularly in my house, so we burn through bandwidth quite fast. Also, Annatar11 is correct, in my area this
I pay 30$ a month for 20 gig. I can get unlimited but it's like 60$ a month.
That's way better than Time Warner customers get, the 40 gig per month deal is close to $60 and there is no uncapped option. So you've still got it better than Time Warner customers. By the way, if those values are Canadian dollars that means you get an even BETTER deal.

If they do this in my area I'll go back to dial up if I have to (though that will suck big time). Edit: About their initial experiment with this, those stats probably aren't representative of actual usage, those people were probably told what was happening and curbed their downloading so as to avoid the charges.&
Figures, I just switched over to Time Warner a month ago. And I don't have any other options in my area (aside from satelite, and I'd rather not have to resort to that, it's my understanding that satelite sucks for gaming.) So I guess they have an iron grip on me. Hope this falls through before they implement it in my area (if they ARE going to implement it in my area, it's kind of rural, so hopefully they'll overlook me until last and by then maybe we'll have other options)

I assume you mean FROM this year, in that case... 1.) Starcraft 2 (I hope it's this year.) 2.) Demigod 3.) Not sure, I have heard some good things about Dragon Age: Origins, but if it's published by EA then I'm not going to buy it (unless they use something more sensible like GOO for their DRM). Maybe I'll go with CoD:MW2.

Same thing happened to me when I pre-ordered Sins, except my bank went ahead and held TWICE what Stardock was charging. Don't know why, but they said it was standard procedure. They didn't charge twice when the transaction went through, but they held twice, as collateral or something I think. I went without my Wendy's cheeseburger that day.
