Volume Control in Vista in DesktopX WinCustomize Forums

I have imported the Silica Volume Control Widget onto my DX desktop on a Vista machine. It doesn't seem to work. I can move the slide up and down all I want, but the system volume never changes. The script itself appears to work, as the value for system.volume does change. It's just not affecting the actual volume of the system. Does the script need to be tweaked to work on a Vista machine, or am I missing something obvious? Thanks! Brian

It works once I uncheck the boxes. Like I said, I don't like to have to cheat, but it's a functional workaround. I just wish I knew what was different since it worked just fine on the other machine. Thanks for the help!

This is humorous. I put them in the startup - completely forgetting to uncheck the 'autostart' boxes. They both started twice. Odd.....

I mean, I'm not the type to 'play it safe' when trying to get things to work. Being an MIS type, I'm used to making sure I break things first so I can do whatever I need to do to prevent them from breaking when I hand them off to users.

Boot process never got far enough to get to safe mode. I had to do a complete re-install from the Vista CD, and then reload all my drivers.

No problemo. I appreciate the efforts from everyone. I did email support - but I know they're not back until Wednesday. I didn't link to this post, though. What do I do - just cut-and-paste the web address, or does Stardock have some slick way of pointing to a post?

Tried it over the weekend - no change. I still get the 'need to reboot' message when I try to start WB6. I did the uninstall, but maybe I have to do a full manual 'cleanup' after the uninstall as well? I will try that tonight and let you know - unless someone has a different suggestion? Hiding the ObjectBar is not the problem. The problem is how do I then get it back when I have an application in front of it? It has to go to either the background or off-screen when I'm running a full-screen app. How do I get back to the bar without having to close the running app?

minimize/maximize/hide dilemma in ObjectBar Stardock Forums

Here's the scenario: I have a couple custom bars loaded. I choose to run an application off one of the bars (Media Center, for example) which runs maximized. My bars are now gone. I don't want them to run 'always in front' because I want to be able to use my entire screen for whatever app I'm running. I can't set a hot key because it's a touch-screen computer. There's no keyboard. How do I get my bar(s) to show up without have to close the currently running applic

Just FYI.... uninstalled WB6 Cleaned up all registry references to it, as well as the WindowBlinds directory under Program Files\Stardock installed WB5 (again, just for giggles) same result. Going to uninstall WB5 now and sit......patiently....and see if anyone comes to my rescue......

32-bit to the best of my knowledge. I even just tried the beta version of WB6 - that didn't help either.

No effect. I uninstalled WB6 and rebooted. I verified that everything under Windows Defender, Windows Firewall, and in the Security Center was turned off. I refreshed the XML data. I reinstalled WB6 and rebooted. Immediately on reboot it tells me to reboot. I reboot one more time (just for giggles), then try to start WB6. Same error message comes up. Is there something else in Vista Ultimate I don't know about that I need to turn off?

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate and have Stardock Central installed. It tells me WindowBlinds 6 - version 6.01.22 - is available to install. When I install it, it tells me I have to reboot. When I reboot and start up WB6, it once again tells me I have to reboot. In small print, it says I should uninstall, turn off all my registry and protection and re-install. I have the same problem - tried Bootskins in Vista without even thinking it wouldn't work. The machine won't come up in any mode - not even safe mode. AND, unfortunately this is a demo/test machine so I don't have access to the Windows/Recovery disks. Any suggestions while I wait for the vendor to send me some?
