Thanks for that suggestion BigDogBigFeet it sounds very sensible and I had considered re-installing but the problem is that I never actually changed the icons so it didn't seem logical to me that it could have taken control of them in this way. Help someone please. I just uninstalled Object Desktop from my Vista laptop and now I find that icons have disappeared all over the place (not all icons but many). Some I have been able to restore simply by using change icon in the properties but some just refuse to change and of course there are many that do not offer up that option because they are not documents but actual executables. An example is MS Word 2007 the program itself has lost its icon and so have all of the .doc extension docu
