Cheaters can't get it done any other way. I don't know about that. I think, personally, that cheaters have a very specific circumstance they want to experience. We have full jobs, social obligations, and life in general to deal with. Why should we game through hours of turns, only to have our enjoyment screwed up by the game not going in a d

With Creativity, when you research a tech, you have a chance of getting a second tech at the same time. For instance, last game I remember it occuring, I was researching Chaff. When I discovered Chaff, I also discovered Smart Chaff (the next in the Chaff line). As for the Corvette class ship, it has Medium class hull, Harpoon missiles, ECM, Sensors, and Basic Support. It looks like you need at least one level of miniaturization, as well (all the components add up t

Ahhhh... Found it in the Galactopedia thread. There's a program there that lets you see the components and required tech for each of the starships. And they suck... Really. No defense on a lot of those ships? It's a straight slugging match: "I shoot, you die! You shoot, I die! How many ships do you have left? Okay, I shoot again! Hah hah!"

Oh, I agree they suck. The first ships I designed were Fast Colony Ship, Fast Constructor, and Fast Survey Ship. I figured I wanted them there FAST (plus, I wanted to toss a little extra colonists into the colony ship, and a few more sensors and more range into the survey ship; does the constructor benefit from more modules?). I still want the option of making them... As for checking each tech in the tech tree, the problem is five turns (or ten or twenty...) later when it becomes t

I research like crazy. I grab every tech I can (yes, I know: focus; I can't help it, I love doing research ). So why can't I get all those standardized ships the AI always gets? I know they're the default designs (I've seen their names on the GC2 wiki), but I never seem to get them. And days of googling has done nothing to help me find a webpage with the information. Nor has a brief perusal of the manual.

In my opinion (and I don't have the numbers to back this up) , cheaters outnumber expert gamers. Call it a two or three to one ratio, just to be on the conservative side. This leads to a bit of a reality-disconnect: Expert gamers deride the use of cheat codes, and yet, it's the cheaters who make a game profitable enough to keep the genre alive. If the cheaters couldn't cheat, they'd just find another genre to game in or, worse, turn on the television or read a book. Cheat

Okay, after two hours of waiting, it finally showed up as possible to download. So I'm mollified. I was just so frustrated, after an hour of trying this and that and the other thing, as to why it wouldn't download. Sorry for the vent-fest. I had an open weekend, and wanted to play. And, two hours later, I was able to.

After much trials and tribulations, I FINALLY managed to purchase the game. (Your system doesn't agree with my ad-blocking software.) So, I've managed to purchase the game. I try to download it, and I can't connect to stardock. The program doesn't agree with my firewall (Norton Internet Security). I can't download the game, because it claims I already have it installed. I only have the demo installed, mind you. So I mark GalCiv 2 as uninstalled. Now what? Where do I go to dow

Is it possible to get GC2Builder to work with saved games, or only with scenarios? I used the Custom Planets method to give myself a great home system (note: it ONLY affects home systems), and after a few restarts, managed to get an Earth with one each of +300% Manufacturing and +300% Research tiles. I was developing slowly, and by the time I had ships out to get the other four planets in my system (all great planets), a neighboring empire had grabbed two of them. The Cust

I'm going to bump this. This (having a map editor) is one of my primary concerns about buying the game. I like to play small-but-advanced civilizations, and that generally means having a map editor. I've tried GC2Builder with the demo, and I can't access saved games (single-player; I cheat, but I don't cheat in multiplayer), nor can I load a custom map (probably just something that's not possible with the demo?). If I'm going to plop down $40, I want to be sure I'll have
