Hey Stardock, could someone please tell me is it intended for the sovereign unit to be a combat unit, or be best used by staying safely at home? Will you someday add both combat and administrative/logistic skills so either path could be viable? I've watched you release a few patches now, and still can't tell where you're trying to go with this. I have no idea where you're trying to go with tactical combat, the different magic schools, dynasties, the game economy, Kingdom Vs. Emp

One thing I like about MoM over WoM is that there was never any doubt as to what you're supposed to do with your 'sovereign', whereas Elemental still hasn't quite figured out if you're supposed to use them as a hero, or keep them in a city, or what.
Think this is affecting Refined Housing as well.
I'm having this problem also. Even worse, I'm having a strange problem where when I move my sov alone or with his army I'll see the square light up where I told him to move, but before he completes his movement this square randomly changes to another square which could be anywhere on the map and starts heading there, making him impossible to move reliably, and grinding my most recent attempt to play this 'game' to a halt. Also, whenever he attacks anything on the strategic map, his mo
I could understand sexy mage gear... but armor is armor. It's supposed to cover, not reveal.
Any official, or unofficial word on this? I seem to be having the same problem in 1.07.
No. Save your money and wait until they finish the game. Buying now will just be frustrating. The underlying game mechanics are completely broken and retarded. It doesn't matter if it now runs at 60fps, it's still broken and lacking. You might enjoy the illusion that your playing a real game, but that will be shattered once you figure out the glaring holes in the game which you will in about 30 minutes. There's many who have already drank the $50 kool-aid who will tell you otherwise, but trus
Nevermind, figured it out. For anyone else, put the XML file in the Mods folder in the install directory. If there isn't one there then make it. Make sure you have use mods checked in the options menu of the game.
Thanks, for no more horseless games. Install instructions?
I'm not sure if this was mentioned before, but in my current game I have at least 2 spots where one resource has spawned in the same square as another. As far as I can tell this makes it impossible to select or improve one of them. In one spot, a fire shrine and gold mine share a square. The gold mine has the red exclamation mark over it, but I can only ever select the fire shrine, which is already built.
I think the Organized trait for Sovereigns is too important to ever not pick. I suppose if you planned on keeping your sov in a city past the first few turns you could live without it, but I don't see any other way to spend 10 points that has such a dramatic impact in the game, or makes your sov any more useful. It seems like the kind of thing a sovereign should be able to do anyway. Give it to all sovs free, and let us use points towards flavor traits that are interesting, but will not make
I think it would be a mistake to try and make a 'sequel'. And they already have a Sci-Fi 4X franchise of their own in Gal Civ, although admittedly I never cared for that as much as the old MOO2 because the weapons in Gal Civ were all very generic and bland (Rock Mk II, Scissors Mk III Paper Mk. IV, etc.). I do hope they make a Gal Civ 3 with the love and respect they seem to be applying to the old MOM formula in Elemental. Hopefully with less emphasis on influence and star base manage
I'll be getting both games, but I'll be getting and playing Elemental before I get Civ 5. I applaud the good sportsmanship that compels the frog to say that Firaxis is an ally and not a competitor. It's yet another reason why I love Stardock so much. However, through no fault of Stardock's, Firaxis has let me down before. Colonization was one of my favorite games, but their remake was entirely forgettable. The Railroad Tycoon series is one of my all-time favorites, and the one that launched S
Yeah I have to third what Fimbul said. I think 2526 is not the year, but the amount of dollars they had for a development budget. Totally lacks production values, the art is ugly as hell and the animations are just embarrassing, where they exist at all. The combat is very disappointing. It clearly is trying to pay homage to MOO2, but they took out the awesome parts (weapon research, ship design) and emphasized the sucky parts (population shuffling and happiness micro-management). Not worth th
I checked LE:I out on gamer's gate. The 5000 systems works better than you would think. Individual planet micro is minimal, and some of those systems are pretty barren. It's actually a pretty cool game, I had no problem with turn times, but it does seem a little buggy still. The ship design is part is really streamlined, and when you upgrade a weapon type, it gets applied to all existing ships automatically which is really nice as it prevents refit micro nightmares. I really like the way the tec
Make sure you have the latest .NET framework from Microsoft installed. Or install XP.
Broadwalk (US version?) = Mayfair (UK Version)
LOL, I was wondering where you came up with Mayfair. Monopoly on a random map, THAT would be fun.
In Monopoly, I do not consider buying Mayfair and Park Lane, and placing hotels on them
Awesome, jhtham. let's meet up and play some Monopoly online. You can have Mayfair and Park Lane, while I put hotels on BOARDWALK and PARK PLACE. :D To the OP: The play to win at all costs and the play for fun MP arguments are all over this board. You played a very small map that you weren't familiar with against 2 people who were only interested in the win, not in exploring
This whole thing boils down to the same lesson I thought stardock learned with GalCiv. You've got to decide what you want the game to be and stick with it. Sprawling single player empire builder and fast paced multiplay are two totally different things with totally different needs and you guys are going to go crazy and fail both design goals by trying to do both at the same time. I think it's safe to say the unvocal majority of customers play this game and games like it for the single p
I bought TQ, and enjoyed it for a while. I never heard any of the hub-ub around it being buggy. However, as others have mentioned, my interest waned because ILE didn't provide dedicated closed servers, and there was no anti-cheat anything for multiplayer. When multiplayer consists of running around with OMGWTFBBQ hacked characters, the game is pretty much dead after you get your fill of single player. Blizzard learned that way back with Diablo I. What's the point of beating a whole level to kill
With slight modification, this post's title becomes the universe's first Space Ponies Haiku! I found space ponies I didn't even notice What did ponies do?
Nevermind. On closer inspection it appears it was just the event where you have to fund galactic celebrations expiring.
Not sure if this is a known thing, but I just loaded a game where I was playing a custom race and was at 80% global approval. When I hit the next turn button, it plummets to 33% and all the worlds of the other races I can see have frowns over them too. There was no event dialogue or anything obvious that I can see to cause this. I have the save if any one is interested.
If it were up to me, I would split the difference between upkeep and actual ships fielded. Right now, when you research the first fleet cap upgrade, it costs you 9% of your economy. I would make 3% a constant effect from the research itself to represent general overhead. I would then balance out the remaining 6% to come from the 270 points of ships themselves, each ship having a small cost per second applied to your overall economy. This would allow another method for balancin
Only one cap can steal resourses. Cat and mouse implies hit and run, one or two caps isn't going to be able to bomb a planet or effect culture signifigantly before defense ships rally, and would need to destroy static defenses to do that anyway. If you're hitting them where they are not, I think the same pop spent on siege/lrm/flak would do more damage and be quicker to get in and out. Even with no siege frigates to bomb the planet, it's not just defenses you're destroying, it's also your foe's
