[quote who="Dethedrus" reply="80" id="2742509"] I'm am a hardcore devoté of the fantasy TBS genre specifically and 4x games in general. I'd be willing to be that many of the more prolific posters this week (especially those with long lists on bug reports and constructive comments) are also similarly devoted. How about Stardock completely dropping the ball insofar as their own Gamers Bill of Rights (specifically points 2 and 5) by releasing a half-baked game full o

Thanks for the review OP, it was excellent and summed up my major complaints with the game. I think Elemental could be a good game with lots of patching over the next few months. I just feel sad that stardock would release a basically unfinished game like this. All the goodwill built up with me from the amazing Galciv games and sins has been dealt a tremendous blow. I know I wont be buying a stardock game on release date again, unless Elemental is radically improve

I normally do the same thing and only start to explore my planets once I have built up a strong fleet and economy. The great thing about the advent is that if you upgrade their mothership with the colonise ability x3 then you can fully explore each new planet for free (assuming you have diviniation researched).

Im not sure if this has been discussed before, but I really liked having a high score table in Moo2 and Civ3. It was always rewarding to play on a harder difficulty etc and see if I could beat my old highest score. I know that we can post submissions to the metaverse, but not all of us are TBS geniuses and I have almost no chance of getting my name up on that score table. I just wondered how feasible it would be to have a personal high score table (accessed through the ingame

To Ellestar: Im not sure if your post is directed to me, but i'll respond anyway. :) You are absolutely right about the spending efficiency in the early game, but later on I find its best to leave 33% on all (apart from in the examples I illustrated above). The reason for this is the huge boost you get to military and social production from starbases. I commonly have 3 starbases with maxed out military/social production upgrades in all my sectors with multiple, decent,

One other note; I dont think your survey ship is meant to represent some scout ship. It more represents the first "Enterprise" sent out on a science mission (Just like the series 'Enterprise' you dont start with guns either!). However, after decades of investigating anomalies and tweaking your ship, it more represents the future Enterprise from the Next Generation series (you know, the one where Riker was Captain, and it had that insta-kill cannon strapped to it!). Being able

In my last game, my survey ship USS Villain became obscenely powerful. I had secured several military resources, and I had over 130 defence. I was able to take out undamaged 15 defence starbases with no problem at all, and dreadnoughts proved to be easy prey for my evil flagship. However, I had hoovered up a huge amount of anomalies by this point and in some early wars I got the impression that the AI lost all their survey ships. I have never seen the AI build more survey ship

I tend to play on large or bigger maps, with hospitable systems being common, and systems found in tight clusters. I now play against all bright opponents, but after my latest game im going to try intelligent/genius. For my starting strategy I try not to rush buy anything. I find that the lease cost hammers my economy for the next 100 turns and isnt worth the sacrifice. Instead, I stick spending on max, leave tax rate at 33% and put the slider full on military. My reasoning for

Just wanted to say a big thanks to Brad and the team for the nice work you did on the latest patch! The Auto launch feature for newly created ships has made a heck of a difference to my games, and I found it solved two problematic areas: Turns are so much faster now! The game is much pacier, as I dont have to go through all the planets double clicking on the newly created constructors. As a result the game flows much better, and I can concentrate much better on my empire strate

I have played several games now, and in every one the AI has managed to get his hands on some crazy quality planets! From what I have seen so far it looks like most planets you find when starting the game are commonly up to about class 20, then with colonisation events such as the worms one that increases planet quality, that can be surpassed. However, in the last game I played, the alterians had a system with two class 32 planets, a 24 and a 19! (this was only after about 20 turns or s

I was thinking about this myself yesterday, and like you I calculated the various costs for the different government bonuses. After working it out, I came to the same conclusion as you, that some obviously cost more than others, but after thinking about it some more, I think they do balance out reasonably well. I usually go with Federalists, as I like the improved economy bonus, but I usually take an improvement in economy as an attribute as well (Seeing as how money drives eve

Geoelectric: "Actually, re-reading it, I guess you could take it either way, and put the y amount all to planet A. The problem with that is what do you do if planet A can't use all that extra spending (for example, the spending slider was maxed to begin with)? " Thats what I meant as a limit to rush building. If all your planets stopped building so that you were basically saving all your money to put into one planet, you would be limited on how much production you could churn out by the

I just read through most of this thread, and there were some great ideas for this tough problem. I definately agree that something needs to be done, as the current economic model actually penalises you for having lots of planets, when you are trying to beat someone to a trade good. I can never beat the minor races to aphrodisiacs (and a couple of the other starting goods) because they only have a couple of systems and can thus afford to have each system producing at maximum. On a good s

Great suggestions IBN! I just finished a medium game, where I had at least 25+ starbases. I must have spent a huge proportion of my gaming time just sending constructors out to each starbase, and going through the upgrade process. Dont get me wrong, I love the starbase upgrade idea. I still chuckle at the idea of my terror star steaming into an enemy sector on course for star destruction, whilst offering water slides and all the convenience of a massive shop mall to its intend

I havent tested this out in game yet, and I thought I would check on here first to save me having to playtest it myself. In the game I played last night, I had built 1 starbase in a sector I was about to conquer (for the combat bonuses), and then I subsequently built two more to sit on resources in that sector. Later in the game I built up the bases with loads of constructors, the first improving social/military production, while the resource ones I just focused on the resourc

I cant really understand why people who bash galciv always go on about the lack of multiplayer and no ship design. Firstly, for multiplayer, turn based strategy games just dont suit multiplay very well. Individual turns can take ages, and waiting 10 minutes for your turn is not my idea of intense multiplayer action. FPS can be awesome on multiplayer, and I have played god knows how many hours on counter strike, and enjoyed every minute of it, but TBS just isnt well suited to it. <br

As this is my first post, let me just say thanks to Frogboy and the rest of the team who put GalCiv together. I have been having great fun so far, and in my second game, against normal opponents on a medium map, I was very pleasantly surprised at the impressive play by the enemy AI. It was a brilliant game and it came down to me and the Arceans splitting the map 50/50 until a big showdown at the end! Excellent! My question is this: What exactly does planet quality aff
