How to activate Sins of Solar Empire from code (retail) in Sins of a Solar Empire Stardock.net Forums

I bought the game (from a shop) Sins of a Solar Empire between 5 - 10 years ago and played it from disk. Bought a new computer without a disk drive and thought I would dust off this classic game. Tried to enter the product code on Steam but it says not valid. Is there any other way to activate this game. Without using the CD?
