Advice re: possible worm???

Advice re: possible worm???

Suddenly IE won't work at all. I have tried sys restore. Cannot access online virus scan. Norton not finding anything at all. I was thinking about re-installing from disc, but if it is a worm or virus it might wipe out the disc. What should I do?

word works, defrag works, sys restore works, netscape works, trillian works.

If this comes through underlined it is not intentional...

regedit, then find --- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

and it said it finished searching

but it didn't say if it found anything or not ... i'm taking that to be negative

Both registry values have been killed and I am still here, I think. Blaster worm search still running.

Blaster was not found on my machine.

goodmorphing: Please enable a firewall as soon as possible, OK? You don't want anymore trouble.

Wow...this was like one of those best-seller novels that you couldn't put down until you got to the end, and found out whodunnit!

Glad there was a happy ending here.

btw GM...love that first image (above).

Just to be sure, I did an online scan and came up clean.

I have one problem though. I can only open the browser once, and then if I want to open it again, I have to reboot. This happens with firewall enabled and disabled.

OK Annie, will let it slide this time...

GM- I think the firewall and the connection settings in IE are still a little wacked. Make sure in your firewall only one network is showing. Do the same in Control Panel/Network Settings. Make sure only one is showing. Also make sure that modem process isn't running in Task Manager everytime you start IE.......if it is we'll have to figure a way to kill it.

both SK991ODM.exe, and GWMDMMMSG.exe came back.

but in the device manager the modem is disabled.

Only one network connection

Kill GWMDMMMSG and see if IE works properly....

yes, it does work with that one killed.

Ok....go to Start/Run and type Msconfig. When it comes up click on Startup....look for that .exe and uncheck it. When ever you re-boot after that it won't start (although the first time you reboot it will ask you if you want to make the changes permanent)
