Go to the options and turn down some of the graphics levels, that might help some Cheers, Reaver

How do you access the military hulls instead of the cargo hulls? I don't see a tab for military hulls. All Non-Cargo hulls are considered Military. Cheers, Reaver
2. I'm having a hard time seeing what you're saying. He wants Tactical Combat. Dead horse. Not gonna happen (at least I won't be holding MY breath waiting for it). Maybe GC3. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif"
What you are seeing is a first class example of how the AI can be exploited, the AI only ever upgrade their ships once every 52 or so turns, so if you catch them early in that build cycle you can easily choose a defense and weapon strategy against theirs, build some ships and go on the rampage tearing thru their systems. This is supposed to be changed, in the 1.2 upgrade we are about to receive, so that the AI upgrade more often. They originally did this so that your computer wouldn'
I don't understand what all of the fuss is at Stardock with the turns taking too long. In all versions I have played up to version 1.1, once you get into the late middle game phase on a huge map, I have to wait several seconds for the Turn button to come back. What difference will another few seconds make, especially with an informative dialog. Cheers, Reaver
All the things you want 'fixed' are currently available in the current release. I have seen AIs research different weapons in my games. And Frogboy's Journal entries (and other player's comments) describe how the AI discovers that it is outgunned on a particular weapon/defense type and makes a switch to develop another type. Its true that tech trading between AI will ensure that they all have some similarities, but that doesn't mean they aren't researching other weapon types. For
Yeah, Very lucky. I have had MINIMAL problems with this game. It shut down my computer twice since I bought the game and it gets turned on nearly every night. And there was the occasional quirky mouse thing, where it would continue to scroll one direction no matter where you were trying to scroll. but I haven't seen any of these since we got out of the beta patches. Oh, and I only play on the larger size maps. Huge and gigantic for me. nice and slow and relaxing. Che
Maybe they were trying to attract tourist business? Approval buildings do more than just make citizens happy, right? Cheers, Reaver
Hmmmm, maybe because you installed the mouse software AFTER installing the game it didn't like that. Maybe a GCII reinstall is called for??? Just a SWAG Cheers, Reaver
There is no such thing as an 'exploit' in GC2 So you are saying that the fact that the AI only redisigns and build ships once per year is not exploitable? Cheers, Reaver
No to multiplayer. I am one of those that plays games to relax, I don't want the added stress I get enough of that in real life. When I want to interact with people, I'll go outside and do so. Cheers, Reaver
If you find a way to win the game because of a tactic that takes advantage of a previously unknown loophole, then you report the problem to the devs, well thats just being a good citizen. If you continue to use said tactic to win metaverse games and pump up your score, thats just cheesy. For instance, buying all of an AI Civs Fleets then turning around the next turn and throwing y
On the planet screen for each individual planet, at the top, where the Shields and flasks are displayed, there is a little icon next to each number. Click on that and that planet is now focussed on that aspect of your planet. Cheers, Reaver
and the main tip about colonizing is to never colonize planets below 7 or 8 right? unless its a stragetic location My rule of thumb is to only colonize PQ 10+ planets, unless the system is of strategic value. Also, in systems with 2 or more colonizable planets, don't bother colonizing the others at first (unless they are really nice
I am running 1.1 still (waiting to finish current game before upgrading), and I noticed this twice this past weekend. Ship is highlighted and after right clicking on a planet or space a long distance away (but not out of the ships range) the ship just sits there, but if I select a location to move to that is closer, she zips on out. Huge map by the way. Perhaps a pathing problem? Is there some limit to the number of weeks that can be set for ship orders? Chee
please acknowlege this bug Stardock. They already have... Cheers, Reaver
I start with a high setting on my Research and I use cash to by my colony ships and the first factory on each new colony. I also buy starports too, as they are pretty cheap. also pump up the spending slider and tax slider as high as I can and not go into the red. Don't forget to use the planetary focus control as well, so you can colonize a planet and set it for social building focus to start with. Cheers, Reaver
Engines == Speed Life support == Range if you need to go further, you need to add life support modules. For galaxies with big gaps between star systems, you will probably want/need both Also, you can piggy back off of your new planets to get range. you only need one colony module per ship, esp early on. Cheers, Reaver
No, the problem is that the AI's only design new ships ONCE a year, so if you bull rush them early, all you have to fight is defender class ships. One year between ship upgrades may be sufficient for mid to late game, but early, on a small map, it makes even high difficulty levels easier. I believe this is supposed be changed in 1.2, so that the AI design ships more often. Cheers, Reaver
Well there is supposedly an upper limit to the number of starbases you can build, based on your Logistics (I have never seen this limit so ...), and there is a hard limit to 4 starbases per sector, so its not like its unlimited "spamming starbases". Cheers, Reaver
It seems like those events are random. According to the way I understand Frogboy's Journal posts, yes this is true, there is some element of randomness in the AI decision making process, even to the extent that on 'dumbest' levels this randomness can cause the AI to make *BAD* decisions. It may be that some of the AI complaints we se
Yeah, the 'buy all their stuff, then invade' tactic is pure cheese taking advantage of an obvious AI flaw. This should be addressed asap by making sure the AIs don't sell off all their warships (I mean, what PLAYER would do that), just like they won't sell weapons tech to you now if you are already way ahead of them. I would only sell outdated stuff that I have already surpassed in building, like ships I didn't upgrade due to cost. So why would an AI? I wouldn't sell of
And IMHO, it seems like they always pick the one that I would prefer at that time, not to attack. While annoying, I can understand it, as it could be deemed a last ditch effort to spite me lol. Hmmmm. Kinda like a REAL player, eh? Cheers, Reaver
Two thoughts here. 1) If an AI is going to surrender to an invading force, a 'scorched earth' policy should be implemented. That is, the surrendering AI should scuttle all defensive ships in orbit and in space, cancel all Trade agreements, set all starbases to self destruct, demolish all planetary improvements and have the fleeing government abscond with all the credits in the treasury. 2) If an AI is going to surrender to a Non-invader, they should, depending on the
Interesting... I am playing 1.1 on Normal level and the AI's can't stop fighting amongst themselves. Then I got the assassination event and the Altairans declared war on me. Maybe your strategy is too good for that difficulty level? Cheers, Reaver
