Mine was "Say Anything" as well, poetmom (don't worry...it's not a bad call).

welcome aboard
With 290 million I know exactly what I'd do. First, the government's GOING to get their share. That's just the way it works. I'd set aside $5 million for my living expenses for the rest of my life, then I'd buy a minor league baseball team, build them a new stadium with outfield bleachers (rare for a minor league park), and sell the outfield bleacher seats for a quarter to any kid under the age of 18. I'd hire out for my own concessi
The piece made me chuckle as well. Good job migs
Beautiful piece. I may ask your permission later to borrow this one (with proper credit, of course).
Your assertion that Americans donate more money than any other nation is inaccurate. Per HEAD of population, they give less than many western nations. Overseas aid is not as generous as it could be, except for where they spend money on the armed overthrow of other nations, of course!! The statistical so
Good piece, Gene...it needed a comment. For some reason, I was reminded of Johnny Cash's "To Beat the Devil".
As do I, sharpliner. I have a gut feeling you would be a wonderful asset to our country.
9. go to a local walmart and spend the night. This one's funny, because when I worked at walmart, we had a homeless lady come in and spend the night in the tire and lube express waiting area. She even made herself coffee in the morning.
This article is about the values that America once had that it shuns now. Yes, and it should hit equally hard on both sides of the fence. The values upon which America was founded are simple. Let's go back to Jamestown: "Don't work, don't eat". As it has been pointed out, even individ
Excellent post, draginol. It's nice to see this side of you, as this is what blogs are often for. I have always had an entrepeneurial approach as well, and can honestly say one of the main reasons I am not wealthy is, I never aspired to be (which, I figure, is OK, as long as you aren't a mooch). I learned early on (as I'm sure you can attest) that wealth brings with it its own share of problems; if you aren't willing to take on those problems,
A closer study of history is in order. Yes, these men are farmers, but given the fact that America was an agrarian nation at the time, that was by no means the humble station your post seems to infer. The founding fathers were, in fact, the wealthiest of the wealthy in this country, which is a primary reason taxes were such a huge concern. Their wealthy status by no means makes them less noble or less worthy of the mantle; if anything in this
if there was any justice in the world it would be a link heaping scorn on folks who can't be bother to get a damn user name. Yeah, that always gets me...anonymous posters to a FREE site...sheesh
For the first time today, i actually found myself typing IN CAPS at someone and really wishing i could just reach through the screen and choke the shit out of them. I didn't mean to evoke that response from you, LW (j/k, LW....ya knows I loves ya.)
I think there's a dynamic to race relations in the US that people who do not live here don't get. In the US, there tend to be "pockets" where a certain culture dominates. A prime example of this would be Wisconsin and Minnesota, where a predominantly Scandinavian and German culture (and growing Hmong population) tends to dominate the scene. These pockets often comingle in the larger cities, which tend to be more racially diverse. The
glad to hear Bob's alive...equally glad to hear he's not embarking on a new life as a "junkyard crab". You know how it goes: they hitch a ride in on the garbage truck, life off the refuse...next thing you know, they're trying to score with every discarded seashell that comes their way. Anyway, glad he's not that!
I can't help but notice that spiritual and talented are the two most common answers, with one materialistic (you marvelouslly honest person) I chose spiritual over materialist, because, frankly, no woman who is material would be happy for a long time with me. Also because my wife is one of the most spi
Do you think I have anger-management problems? no, in fact, I envy you in many ways. As a typical type "A", my garage often looks like a hurricane hit it because of wrenches, sockets, etc, tossed across because I can't get the durn car fixed (see the threads on the brake problems of the last
Either way, if you are most comfortable in your own world of thinking exactly a certain way blindly without really even considering the points of view of others who might disagree with you, I'm sure you'll continue to do just that. One of the problems we have here is that fact after fact has been put ou
setting up bases in a country is not the same as occupation. It just gives us a foothold (note: one REQUESTED by many Iraqis) to help them secure the country.
When Dharmagrl responded to one of my posts, it gave me a wow factor. I guess that will pass over time. Yeah, dharma has that effect on us....
2/3 of them would have to ratify it for the change to occur. 2/3 of the legislatures, that is...or, are you sure it isn't 3/4? I'm pretty good with this stuff, but I get confoozled from time to time...lol
One reason I think that young people are so largely courted is they're often swayed by emotion rather than reason, and often have more limited life experiences that tend to color their view in one way or another. This is why a certain party tends to target the young people more heavily (playing the sax on TV in the early 90's comes to mind...but, no names here...lol).
Good luck in your endeavours. I started out at over 350 (I can only estimate my weight as near 400 when I started), was plateauing at 280 for awhile, probavly below that by now, so...your stories are encouraging.
Very good article, Brad...I looked at some of the other stuff this guy has out as well...he's an excellent researcher and a talented writer as well. Unfortunately, I think we're all going down the road of preaching to the choir as well, as the ultralibs'll never believe it.
